Check out this S-500 demo by Samuel C Lees. He takes you through all the S-500's tricks and showcases the range of tones it can provide.
When we heard him coax a Gretsch / Setzer vibe from the middle pickup, we were like... damn!

Those ARE terrific instruments; of course, that dude knows how to get the most out of them, too!

Love this demo! He's trying hard to make me love the S-500--my only custom ordered G&L!
I've kept my S-500 since ordering it in 2001 (13+ years ago!!) always expecting I would eventually warm up to the pickups. (I LOVE the big MFDs, but the small ones...)
After a month of playing nothing else (forcing myself)... I'm starting to like it! So there's hope!!
--custom ordered from the old Buffalo Bros run by Tim and Bob:
Butterscotch Blonde
GOT #4 neck
Saddle lock bridge (I prefer hardtails)
3-ply black pickguard
lightweight swamp asp body (thanks to Tim for suggesting a wood weight preference!)

Great demo. Funny guy. Reminds me of all the sounds I get with my guitar... in my head.... before I plug in.....
Then it's all downhill from there.

Does this S-500 have an alder body or mahogany?

Normal production has alder under standard finishes and swamp ash under premium finishes. If you go back to the Leo era, you'll find quite a few of the very early ones with mahogany bodies, and some maple bodies as well.jwebsmall wrote:Does this S-500 have an alder body or mahogany?
