Can this be called gear porn?

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

Can this be called gear porn?

Post by Nubs »

Ok so I have my ASAT Classic which I love. But then I just got this Tech 21 Trademark 30 amp…

WOW! If you all have never heard of/tried out one of these babies, you're really doing yourself a huge disservice!! Yes it's small in size, but that's about it! The tones you can get from this thing are simply astonishing! Even though it is a solid state amp (analog circuit) and it has switches for different settings, I would hesitate to call it a true modeling amp.

I've been looking for a nice portable amp that can primarily do clean tones very well. I have a Blues Deluxe and every amp I've tried since then has been a direct comparison to that beast of an amp. And after trying several amps since (Orange, Vox, PureSalem/SOVTEK, Hughes & Kettner), I can honestly say with all certainty that this Tech 21 beats them all. I know that's a very bold statement given the manufacturers I mentioned, but it's really true. IMO Tech 21 is a dark horse of the amp world which not many people may know about. But by all rites, they should.

So if you're looking for a totally kick-ass little amp that you can use to practice, gig, and record without breaking the bank, I would HIGHLY recommend checking one of these sweet things out.

Let me know if you have any questions about it. Thanks!

What are your favorite settings for an "on-the-edge-of-breakup" tone, such that if you dig in with your picking hand, you've gone from a fat clean to a light crunch?

I was just playing around with it now & found a pretty decent setting that's like what you described. The amp is set to tweed, mod is high gain, & speaker is US. Drive is set to about 10 o'clock. Low, mid & high are all around 1 o'clock, reverb is set to about 9, and master volume is set to about 1 o'clock as well.

This page gives some good user defined settings for the amp as well: http://www.cstone.net/%7Ehalouis/tm10/index.html?all

Nubs,

I've had Trademark 10 for a few years now. I believe the "10" model is discontinued. Too bad cuz you're right, it's a great little practice amp for the house! I'm really amazed at how good it can sound for a solid state amp. And it can get a wide range of decent sounds. Highly recommended.

They used to use these amps at LA Music Academy.
