Comanche owners,is my one wired out of phase?
Just curious about this as ive always found when i flick the switch to engage all 3 pickups the sound gets thinner and kind of hollowed out like its out of phase.Basically when im on for example the neck pick or the neck/middle it sounds way fatter than all 3 together. Is it suppose to sound like this or did the previous owner of mine rewire it to sound like this.I did see a vid of andy from PGS using one and he said the switch is for activating all 3 pickups to fatten up the 2 and 4 of the toggle switch.Mine has the opposite effect.Anybody else do the same?

It might well be the case of a previous owner rewiring it. See this in our Gallery: Album: Comanche Wiring Diagram and Picture Diagram.danaconda wrote:Just curious about this as ive always found when i flick the switch to engage all 3 pickups the sound gets thinner and kind of hollowed out like its out of phase.Basically when im on for example the neck pick or the neck/middle it sounds way fatter than all 3 together.
Hope this helps.

I've got two Comanches and have implemented that option by myself to other guitars, including an ASAT with 3 pickups.
Switching all 3 pick-ups on, always delivers a more hollow sound, never a fatter one, but the sound doesn't change that dramatically to thin as danaconda descreibes. I doesn't like that sound and that's why I don't use the switch with selector positions 2 or 4 (which are exactly the same then), but just for having neck and bridge pick-ups on at the same time (selector at 1 or 5).

danaconda,
You might want to check the following:
i) Try normal Strat in-between positions (2 and 4) and listen for significant loss of *bass* vs a single pup position (1, 3, 5). It's useful to turn down the treble control for this as well as to turn up the bass control..
ii) Check Tele positions (1 and 5, switch engaged) for the same thing.
If there is no loss of bass then all pickups are in phase -- also valid when all three are on -- , and what you are experiencing is the timbre shift in the upper midrange, depending on what pup configuration is active.
Your amp or, more likely your speaker might have a significant response peak in a frequency range that is cancelled when all 3 pup are on, so it tends to sound less loud / more hollow.
On my S-500 I like that 3 pup sound, especially with a mild overdrive.
