I've been Reborn!!!

Post by SixSlinger »

Hi all, my name is Don and although I've played the guitar for 51 years, I'm new to G&L. My first G&L guitar is the ASAT Special (solid body). I do own Fender guitars, but my last Fender purchase is now my last. What in the heck took me so long to open my eyes to G&L??? I've heard others rave about them but I was to busy being in my own world. My loss. But, the good new is, I've been reborn!!!!!

I'm so glad to run into this forum and I will frequent this place a lot. Glad to meet all of you here.

Tim,

Good to meet you. You know, you can tell when you hold the ASAT Special that it's a cut above the Am Deluxe Telecaster (which I also own). Other's I have talked to who own G&L guitars all say the same thing...being it's the best guitar they own.

I ordered mine through Guitar Center for a few reasons. One, if something happened to it during shipment they would have to make things right...also with all the theft happening by leaving packages at the front door, I thought it better just to pick it up there. It arrived to Guitar Center and I had them open it. The clerk (surprised) remarked that I ordered a G&L and several other clerks heard him say it and quickly they came over to look at it. You could hear them say things like "Whoa" and "Nice" and more. One clerk took a deep breath as the case was opened as to take in the 'Sacred Air' left in the case from Leo's factory. LOL :D

My first impression when I plugged the guitar in at the lesson studios where I work is...how clear and rich the notes were on the 6th string going from the 3rd fret down to open. Right away beyond the visual of the guitar, I knew I was holding something very, very special.

Now, to start thinking about one that resembles the Stratocaster. Maybe the Comanche is on my list!!! Ya' gotta know it's already better than any Strat I've played. :)

I'm one that will customize a guitar to fit my needs as I did my Am Dlx Strat...switching out the pickups on it (more on that further)...but, I think I would probably go with the Z-3 pickups that come with the Comanche.

My ASAT Special gives me what I want right out of the case. So did my PRS305 and DC3...both guitars stay as they are. My Am Dlx Strat was a victim of acquiring other guitars later that were better (mentioned)...so I took the electronics out and ordered a new pickguard configured to house two P-90's. I also switched out the 1 volume 2 tone controls configuation over to 2 volumes and one tone (Bridge PU) control. Now the Strat sounds amazing.

I really don't own a bunch of guitars...5 electrics, 1 acoustic...but I have a feeling my collection is going to expand very soon. :happy0007:

Welcome to GbL! I'm sure your collection will expand. That's how it tends to go around here!

Welcome Don, being am elderly dude, I didn't get my first G&L until I was in my mid sixties. I still have a roost of Fenders but now have 17 G&Ls. They are sweet! -- Darwin

You are my Hero!!! I'm in my sixties as well. The running song around here is "Yes she still needs me, yes she's still feed me, now that I'm sixty-four. LOL

That's quite a collection. I can't see myself getting that many...I wish I could and I would. :) I'm just so sorry it took me so long to open my eyes and ears to G&L! Better late than never I guess....still, I'm kicking myself.
