The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.
A good day at the office is when a large rectangular box is delivered from California, with the letters "G&L" on the side.
This'll be my first guitar with MFD pups. Santa's chief executive elf is gonna make me wait til Christmas to plug it in (she has a sadistic stripe) but I did need to inspect the goods. Everything is perfect, including the neck setup. I'm impressed. However, the sunburst looks more like a 3 tone than the more subtle tobacco sunburst, to me. It's a 2014 trib asat special, so tobacco sunburst or blueburst were the options. What do the experts think?
Nice ASAT Jon! The 3 tone SB must be new this year for the Tributes. My 2012 Trib has the tobacco sunburst and looks quite different. Both are pretty nice looking guitars in my eyes!
Thanks, everyone, for your input. It's going to be a tough 4 months!
I obtained it early because the tob sunburst versions are difficult to find, while the bluebursts are plentiful. I located this one at Studio Gears in So Cal.
I ordered it as a tob sb, so i was a little surprised when i saw the 3 tone sb. I briefly considered sending it back, but it is quite attractive as is, seems unique, and the last 3 digits of the serial number were 821, and it was delivered to me 8/21. I figure destiny, go with it.
Maybe the 3 tone sb was a "one off" - i didn't think they did that with tributes.
I don't really care for the look of the ASAT Specials but in both of these pictures they look really sharp. Drjho7, that guitar looks hot. Whatever you got there is a perfect combination and my opinion on the looks is changed. I bet looks better in person. I really don't need another G&L to add to my wishlist but everyone here (and on YouTube) raves about the ASAT Special.
Thx, Lefty, I agree. both fianoman's tob sb and my 3T sb are easy on the eyes.
I was wrestling with getting an s500 or comanche as my 1st MFD pup guitar, but I've seen the rave about the tone of the ASAT special, and fumble put in a plug for the large coil mfd's, so i took the plunge on the ASAT sp. I haven't done the comparison yet, but I'm thinking it will sound vastly different than my Tele.
I have a Trib S-500 and I love it. Its a great quality instrument and it sounds really great. I have tried the ASAT Special and its a great guitar too. The ASAT special will be my next guitar. It will go great with my S-500 and my Epi Les Paul. I've reconciled with my LP so i won't sell it.
