NGD!! Emerald Green Goodness

Post by Monahan »

So I've been playing a lot more bass lately and I'm absolutely loving it!

I love my LB-100, but was itching to add something that offered a few more sounds than the single pickup LB. The trick for me is to find something that wouldn't be sonically redundant. Already having a humbucker guitar, I set my sights on something with single coils.

Then I came across this, which I simply couldn't resist. It is exactly what I would have special ordered through a dealer if I had the money. Thankfully it was on sale for a song, so I had to sing the song of joy for I knew this would be a sweet axe ;)

As an added bonus, my wife REALLY likes it too :D

So what is the new acquisition and where did I find it?

My New Bass

The shop is called Maple Leaf Music in NH; I found this quite appropriate since I'm a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

So I call the shop first thing Friday morning (a week ago) and arrange to have it shipped to my door. The next evening I am checking out their website and discover that the owner of this small shop is a graduate of The Evergreen State College-- the very school I'm graduating from (as an older-but-wiser student) next Friday  :D How cool is that?!

I know, I know-- who cares? Wheres the photos? In addition to those on the shops website, here are a few of my own:

The bass actually arrived yesterday via Fed Ex, and I put it straight into service-- literally. I played it in one of our Sunday morning services at church today ;) And I gotta say it sounded fantastic! The action is really low, and the passive pickups were noise-free even under our bombardment of lighting! I was concerned about the #8 neck possibly being too small, but it is chunky enough that it feels wonderful, and makes it even more unique in my small collection (--meaning it's a keeper). Typically I play through a Carvin MB15 through which it sounds incredible, and this morning I went through our church's Ampeg 15 combo-- the JB is very easy to dial in the sounds I'm looking for through a variety of amps! Next weekend I'll be going through the main rooms PA... might have to pick up a SansAmp Bass Driver DI...

As Mr. Bueller might say...

Still floating on Cloud Nine!

Thanks Tim!

Some years ago there was a gentleman at a certain San Diego guitar shop with whom I developed a guitar friendship with... he shipped a few G&Ls to me while I was in the USAF stationed in South Korea. One of the guitars had a HUGE #3 V neck...

You wouldn't happen to know this brother in G&L would you?

Sweet bass, green guitars are cool

The fact you put her straight into action speaks loudly for why we all love G&L basses and guitars.

Thanks for sharing

Thanks again for all the kind words!

I'm lucky enough to have several basses: 3 G&Ls and a MM Stingray. They are all fine instruments, but this is the one I like the best and as a result have been playing more often than any of the others. Just through guilt of neglect, I'm planning on using the Stingray this upcoming weekend-- it will give the JB a well deserved rest for a week or so

Sweet! I hope to make it to the show in Kent-- especially since I missed the Spring show, but my wife & I are trying to buy a house... and if all goes as planned, our move-in is going to happen about the same time as the show (which means painting, cleaning, moving, etc.). However, theres still a chance I'll see you there ;)
