Finish: old school sunburst
I noticed a legacy and several left handed s-500's with an "old school sunburst" finish over on Guitar Adoptions website. Is this finish option still available for new orders? I didn't see it listed on the G&L site.

Guitar Adoptions is nefarious for describing the colours opposed to posting the companies name for it.

I'm checking into this with a couple of factory contacts.
It looks like a light Tobaccoburst to me.
Stay tuned.

Re: Finish: old school sunburst
I just heard from Steve Grom on this:
Hope this helps.
I also heard from John Toner and he says:Craig,
In talking with Malcolm, the Old School Tobacco Sunburst (not sure of the original name)
started as the sunburst they used on Deluxe models with the Mahogany back.
The back of these instruments were a transparent brown (no burst)and this brown came
around the front edges to become the darker portion of the sunburst.
We had requests for ash and alder bodies using this lighter brown for the edges, but a full
burst on the back .... that became Old School Tobacco Sunburst. I think this color has
been in the price list in the past (not currently) and several dealers know about the color
and order instruments in this finish from time to time.
This is like those special dishes at a restaurant that aren't on the menu, but the "hip" customers
order it knowing you have the recipe.
Another little bit of interesting G&L history
Steve
So, it sounds like you can still order this finish. I recommend ordering it as Old School Tobacco Sunburst. We've had that finish available for quite some time now.
It is different from the Tobacco burst in that it doesn't fade to a dark brown,
but a rich medium brown, kinda like a burnt amber.
Hope this helps.

Yes this helps a lot - thank you!
I think the Old School Sunburst on Ash is
stunningly beautiful especially with a
black pick guard and rosewood fingerboard.

Re: Finish: old school sunburst
I don't care what the name is that guitar is beautiful. I saw this guitar
on Guitar Adoptions web site (after I bought my Legacy unfortunately).
Other wise I would probably have bought this one.
I once knew a beautiful girl in school whose last name was Muck. Ms. Muck
was not a very happy camper. But you can change the name but not the
finish at least easily. I told she could change her name and she told me to
get lost. True story.
