Dating ASAT

Post by bertusguitar »

Hi,
I have recently bought an ASAT Classic Custom. The previous owner told me it is an USA model that she got new in 2012. However the serial number, according with the dating guide should be written in a metalic plate... The number is CLF 49722 and is actually printed in water slide at the top of headstock.
Thanks in advance.
Greetings.

Welcome to GbL. I can't remember the exact date when the "microwave plate" serial numbers started, but I believe it was around 2011 or 2012. Prior to that the water slide decals were used. She could have purchased it before the change, or it could have been in the dealer's stock from before the change. Either way, I would be glad to have the decal instead of the metal tag ;) .

The microwave plate was introduced in February 2011, starting with S/N CLF061000. Given the S/N, your guitar is more likely from 2007-2008, a rather broad period because S/N's were not used sequentially in this days. I just matched it up with the S/N I have for my ASATs. And yes, it could very well be NOS as Ken indicates.

Hope this helps,

- Jos

Now I've found that it must be a semihollow without f-hole. At least there is a big difference in weight comparing with my tele and another asat classic.....

I love the "no-F hole" semi hollow. Sweet!
