New G&L nightmare

Post by xerck »

Very disappointed in G&L Invader i ordered. Scratches in finish, guitar was never set up at factory, every note buzzes on every fret on every string, Floyd setup very badly. Quartersawn maple neck may never be able to be adjusted/not set at factory. Abalone dots were an unpleasant surprise that are hard to see on maple board, and imo weaken the impact of the guitar's look. Mahogany wood very dead lifeless and quiet. G&L not able/willing to offer refund. Now I have over $2000 store credit at a shop that carries really not much i want. I guess now they have to try to sell this atrocity. My friend's used Rampage tribute sounds/plays better. Gutted. Beware. This is just the stuff G&L messed up. Not liking the dealer system at all now that I've experienced it. Just bought a used unplayed Invader for about a third what the new one ran. Dunno how I can recoup. I've played g&l's for years, now reconsidering on principle.

Ouch! Sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience. After reading that you have played G&L's for years and are reconsidering on principle it made me think of the Osmond's line, "One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch..."

Maybe your guitar received a strong jolt that knocked the neck out of whack leading to a consequential mess?

The finish scratch issue would be something to resolve either by repair or replacement if it were a brand new guitar you special ordered. How severe were the scratches? What color was the finish?

The dots on the maple necked Invaders I could find online were dark. Did you request different material?

How did you determine that the mahogany was "lifeless" with all of the fret buzzing present?

Only time heals some things.

Sometimes the road to getting The One is crazier and more expensive than you could have imagined. In route I have bought and sold things at a loss eventually ending up paying out roughly three and more times the amount of the final item to get there.

Look at the "build sheet" for the guitar. Does it have a PLEK date? Who was the PLEK and set up tech? Even with guitars that are PLEK'd from the factory, my dealership does a full set up on each guitar, especially a custom order. Sounds like you are having a bad dealer experience and an instrument that was likely damaged after delivery to the store. I guarantee you that the issues, paint scratch from new, buzzing, neck out of whack, bad set up would have never passed QA at the factory. If this is how the guitar was presented to you this way, how come you ever accepted delivery to begin with!?

I'd call Chris Robosan at (714)897-6766 extension 156 or send an email to him get to the bottom of this. http://www.glguitars.com/support/index2.asp

I don't doubt anyone's story, and feel the pain that would come with a less-than-perfect new instrument, whether G&L or not.

I've custom ordered (3) G&L basses, bought stock a 4th-
All perfect; all I'll add is that if something is wrong w/ a new G&L, it's the BIG exception, not the rule.
LOCK it in the POCKET!
