thanks Jos , still bumming I sold my first G&L the 1998 Classic blonde with maple board to get it , then bummed out even more when Jonc posted what guitar he's keeping (knowing what he sold me and what he used to have ) and then Jos ,you posted how the number 1 just became the keeper over your first G&L out of your whole collection , you two made me think I made a really bad decision for selling my first , my 98 Classic , but I know it went to a good home with Gentleman Jim so it's all good and the new Classic plays and feels like my 98 , so we're good

Happy 4th to the few of us popping in on a holiday (in the USA).

Interesting how the finishes are applied differently on those two guitars, silver/white all around the edge of one and three colors on the other.

Anyone photographing a mirror pickguard should take notice that outdoors like the two here is the way to do it. Looks like chrome. Mirror really shows off its character when seeing it while you and the guitar are at least slightly in motion. You rarely get a fixed view of anything reflected so the photos with a reversed image reflecting on the pickguard are not truly representative of the surface.

I don't remember exactly when you sold the number one to fund the new guitar. There are good arguments on both sides for selling before and after acquiring a new guitar. I believe the best option is to decide to sell or keep one when you have both.

I love my Classic. I consider it my number one. My impression of guitars changes depending on how much I play what guitar, how often I am playing in general, how rested I am, etc. On a given day a guitar can feel awkward then feel great another day. But that Classic still comes back alive like no other to me.

There is more than just playability of the guitar involved. In addition to the sound or type of guitar, many times experiences go with it. I may have fond memories associated with a guitar and it can become legendary in your mind when you are unable to continue adding experiences to it after you sell it or stop playing all together. I think you are better off letting go of the guitars you sell and focusing on what you have. Unless it is awkward and painful you probably can fill the space with a new number one.

salmon ... the plan was to get the BO Classic first and sell the 98 Classic later if all check out good on the BO , my 98 Classic is the " one" all the others are compared against .... the BO came up on ebay and after a few private messages through ebay we were talking on the phone and I got him to pull it off ebay and hold it for me a month .... I had already got the book value on my 98 when gentleman Jim posted he was looking for a Blonde Classic with maple board and how everyone was high on ebay .... I priced it to sell in a PM with some pictures and he took it ..... then right after that Jonc posted his 86 ASAT as a keeper , I all ready got a mint Broadcaster off of Jon and he was keeping a 86 ASAT of all the bad azz guitars that was in his collection ??.... then Jos posted his number one guitar was his first G&L until #1 Commemrative came in ..... Now I'm really second guessing myself and secretly hoping gentleman Jim will back out , but he didn't and I'm a man of my word so I shipped it once I received payment .... the new Classic feels and sounds as good as my 98 so all's good , I could of kept both , it was sure easier getting this BO "in the door" when my better half witnessed me shipping the " IPhone 5.5 guitar " (that's how she knows the 98 is from the I-phone commercial ) ..... I told her the new BO is the same guitar , just a different color , witch it is .... at this point in my collection I don't want two of the same model , in this case two Classic's

On the BO Deluxe , James at Seattle Guitar Store had some idea's on that one and I let him run with it , like colored sides instead of the silver and the single bound natural wood binding .... the only thing we missed was the Matching head stock , I declined matching HS at first then changed my mind and decided to go with the matching HS but somehow it didn't make it on the final order

Brothers from the same mother! How are they playing wise? I played your new one before Mr. Squires took it home and loved it, yet couldn't justify 2 buck painted classics. So happy you got it!

thanks , it plays like I expected , I don't think Michael played it much , it feels like my 98 just slightly heavier , same with the Deluxe it's heavier yet ... I'm guessing 9 and 10 pounds .... that paint must add some weight

Never second guess yourself. There are a boatload of great guitars and a slew of G&L's, both Leo and BBE-era still to be drooled over, discussed, disected and coveted. I count myself lucky to have had a wonderful G&L collection and glad that some of these are now in the hands of fellow addicts. Some of these were and are definitely "bad azz" but what makes a keeper? As many reasons as one can imagine. My main reason for keeping this one over all the others? A Tele is the most basic electric there is and for me the essence of Leo, George's, Dale, et al's genius. Straightforward, mostly indestructible, plays and sounds great and has a timeless look and style. The ASAT, for which we can thank Dale, revved up this timeless instrument with the Saddle Lock and large MFD's. But at its heart it's still a Tele. Albeit a better Tele than the original in my humble opinion. Then too, see-through blonde is a classic finish and the ebony neck, which is my favorite, was the icing on the cake. I actually had 4 of these at one time but this got the nod due to the somewhat fuller neck profile. Is it "bad azz?" Probably not compared to others I've had. But for me it's what a Fender is, although Leo was much more interested in his S-types, and why it's my keeper. Your mileage may vary but go with your gut, don't second guess and know that there's a whole bunch more just over the horizon.

Well Eric you certainly have two beauties and I am very happy you are please with the new baby. They are both full of American pride for sure.

About your 98, I said this before and I'll say it again, you were right about how great it sounds and plays. Now I'm not trying to make you feel bad, but you can have her back for a minimum of six figures anytime. You know I'm your new pal and I want to be fair about things, plus you know where I live too..................................... lol's

now I have to make room for a Hugger Orange Fallout with saddleloc due in about a week from now .... this Fallout is getting Gigged and won't be a " Home Princess " case queen
