Question for the gurus:
I own a Fender MIM Strat and a newly purchased used Legacy. The MIM is dead quiet through both my Mesa and Allen amps while the Legacy is much noiser. I have had the Legacy into two different shops, both tell me that it sounds normal. It may be normal, but again, the Fender is much quieter. ....any thoughts on why?......any thoughts on how to fix?

How is the shielding of the controls and pickup cavities between the two?

You could swap the pickups for G&L MFD's which are considerably quieter than Alnico's.

Does your MIM strat have the vintage noiseless pups (as on a deluxe players strat MIM) or just standard fender Mex alnico pups? The former are very quiet.

Not sure of the pups on the Strat, nor do I know if the Legacy is shielded.....I heard shielding was not very effective??? Looks like a trip to the the tech.....

If you have good ground, shielding your control cavity can only do so much, since most of the hum comes from the pups themselves. S-500 spec MFD pups are not a bad way to go if the hum bothers you. Here is a handy vid by Nick Jaffe that tackles the issue.
