g&l legacy special usa 96 neck pickup

hello,
i got g&l legacy special usa 96 that was somewhere in her case for the last 10 years...
after the guys that are doing setup to the guitar checked her they called me today
and told me that the neck pickup is need to be replaced.
so...
they gave me link to ebay to order - >kent armstrong hum canceling strat hot clack pickup<
it cost 49$+shipping 25$
is this pickup is the original pickup for my guitar ? and if not
what do you recommend me to do?

No, the Kent Armstrong pickups are not the original pickups. See these posts: Legacy Special Blade Gotoh vs. Paul Gagon and List of pickups used in G&L guitars.
You can get replacement Legacy Special pickups from the G&L On-Line Store.

the pickups on my guitar are kent armstrong....

For years we have been using the Dual Blade pickups made by Gotoh in Japan.
With all the natural disasters and economic problems in Japan, the vendor was
very slow to deliver a recent purchase order. We ended up getting dual blade
pickups from Kent Armstrong to use while we waited for our order to be
completed by Gotoh.

The Kent Armstrong pickups offer some addition switching options, hence the
extra wires. We did not want to complicate the guitar's function, so even with
the wiring different that the Gotoh pickups, the operation of the instrument are
the same, based on our updated wiring for the newer pickups.

This substitution was only done for a short period of time in 2012. I would guess that a previous
owner of your guitar replaced the stock G&L Gotoh pickups with Kent Armstrong pickups.

I have no way make sure what happened...
This used to be my brother guitar
And it look like the same pickup that were there from the begining
But maybe my memory is mistken and the guitar
Was at more then one freind of his...
So now i am wondering what to do
To order
Kent armstrong
Strat hum caneceling cool pickup
For 75$ include shipping from ebay
Or what the g&l online store has to offer for legacy special
That cost 105$ include shiping.

The Kent Armstrong pickups have black rails and the Gotoh pickups have silver chrome rails.
If the current pickups in the guitar are Kent Armstrong and you like them, I would get a replacement Kent Armstrong.

No question what that is. We've had periods over the years where Kent's pickups were substituted for other ones. Same construction, though Ken likes his blades black where the others are chrome. Let me check on stock, I'll bet we have some around here somewhere.

i have ordered from ebay Kent Armstrong HUM CANCELING STRAT(r) COOL pickup

the post here says it suits the neck pickup

i read : ceramic 8k

i hope it match my pick up.

mine is also kent armstrong black
but it says STHR-1 model which haven't found what it stand for in the armstrong pickups.
wish me luck.

Yes. Your guitar must have been made with those pickups.

I was only aware of the substitution done in 2012. I did contact Dave to find out more about this and
he did say that they occasionally did so but could not pinpoint specific times.
