What's wrong with this comanche.

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

What's wrong with this comanche.

Post by moonbirds »

Hello Guys,

I've bought a comanche second handed and I tried to date it........ On the back of the neck: cl 14826, no neck date, no dates or other data in the neck pocket, under the pick guard it says comm...rw.....199920. Another strange thing is the position dots on the side of the neck/fretboard. Normaly you find them on the side of the fretboard, but on my guitar they are positioned 1 mm under the fretboard on the maple neck. Is this original, or is this a custom job??
Anyone there who can help me with this one??

Thanks, Theo from the Netherlands

Dude, that is a nice guitar. Put it back together. 1997-1998. The dots are correct.

I'll go out on a short limb and say that the "BLB" is blue-burst and the "RW" is rosewood (fret-board). I'm sure it's legit. Serial numbers that start in "CL" rather than "CLF" weren't used very long. 1999 is one of the years that "CL" was used. You're cool. Now where's the picture of the whole guitar, in all of its blue-burst glory?

The neck heel and neck pocket likely had the date stamps prior to assembly. To insure a proper fit of neck to
body, the neck heel and/or the neck pocket might require sanding.
The number inside the pickup cavity is the factory internal tracking number and not the serial number.
comm = Comanche and rw = rosewood fretboard.
I also agree with replyman on the build year [see Serial number significance in the Knowledgebase] and that the dots are correct.

When you get a chance, how about posting a full shot of your Comanche? Blueburst is one of my favorite finishes.

Hope this helps.

My Comanche has the very next serial number. Headstock looks EXACTLY the same as yours.

The only thing which is confusing is a second capacitor (201k green) on the bass pot while the G&L schematics shows only one ????
Which schematic are you referencing? We don't currently have one
for the Comanche in the GbL Gallery or on the main G&L website.
I'll see if I can get one from the factory and will add it.

Stay tuned.

I have added a Comanche wiring diagram to the Gallery which I got from Chris Robosan from G&L.
It's located in the Instrument Manuals and Wiring Schematics Album.

Hope this helps.
