Craig's Mahogany ASAT
Hope it's alright to create a thread about a guitar that is owned by another member here so I can comment on it.
It was used in a Knowledgebase thread but it seemed like it was bound to draw a lot of off-topic comments.
So...
HHHHOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLYYYYY SMOKES!

Yep, that is a keeper. You don't see many with a Mahogany neck. Gold hardware is no longer available. Craig has some beauties. Maybe we can get him to post some of them to keep us entertained! I know that he has a stunning Z-3 with Gold. -- Darwin

My bad for including the full shot of this guitar in the Knowledgebase post.Salmon wrote:Hope it's alright to create a thread about a guitar that is owned by another member here so I can comment on it.

I've removed it from the knowledgebase post, since you decided to post it here. I would have preferred that you PM or EM me before posting ... oh well.
Elwood had suggested that I post some photos in this sub-forum and I will do so when I have some free time to take some photos of my latest ones.
I will also explain my motivation for having this guitar built.
In the meantime, you can see some of my G&L's in my Registered User's Gallery: Album: Webmaster Craig.
Now back to visit with my daughter before she heads home.

Re: Craig's Mahogany ASAT
I knew I should have not posted that full shot of my guitar in the knowledgebase post.
Salmon, I know you were just trying to be helpful, but next time please contact me first and wait for my reply... Thnx
Well, I finally got some spare time to followup on this post.
Now for a little background on this guitar. In 1999 I bought a new Custom Creations ASAT Junior from Tim Page (Buffalo Brothers) at the San Jose Guitar show.
I really like this guitar a lot, but I am a huge fan of the Saddle-Lock bridge, so I always thought that I'd like to get one with a SL bridge. Fast forward to 2004, I had
the opportunity to have the factory custom build a guitar for me, so this is what I ordered: ASAT Semi-Hollow with Mahogany body and #1 neck, Natural Gloss finish,
Gold hardware, Locking tuners, Graph-Tech nut. I did order it without the f-hole but that did not get communicated onto the factory order and I really am fine with it as is:
This is my go to guitar (unplugged) in our Great Room and sits on a stand next to the big screen TV.
When I first got it, I AB'd it with the Junior and felt that I got exactly what I was looking for. The Junior is a tad bit lighter in weight but only a few ounces (just a guesstimate).
I do have some more G&L's to post here in the Porn section, so stay tuned, as time permits.
Thanks all for your comments.

That was the OMG shot for me , thanks for the follow-upsCraig wrote:I knew I should have not posted that full shot of my guitar in the knowledgebase post. ...
The ebony fretboard must add some stiffness and density to the equation that I bet makes for a nice attack.
It sure is the perfect choice to bring a little contrast , the mahogany finish doesn't look so dark .

Wow Craig, that is a beauty!
My 25th anniversary is so resonate unplugged... I am not surprised that this is your go to unplugged axe I have always wondered what the 25th would sound like with the regular MFD's and here you have had the answer for years!

Good eye, Darwin! Yes, I got one when you first posted about them. I've been playing with the Leslie settings and it's sounds really good.darwinohm wrote:Sweet Craig, is that an IStomp just to the left of the guitar? -- Darwin
The only issue I have with it is I need to get a slightly longer patch cable, that's why it's currently sitting on it's box or I could just lower my
amp stand.

Re: Craig's Mahogany ASAT
Good choice with the ebony fretboard wood designing this guitar. I had been close to contacting the dealer and asking if my special order could be switched to ebony. A few days later the guitar arrived at the store anyway. If there is a next time that guitar will probably have an ebony fretboard.

BTW, that ASAT Junior I got from you is still the lightest weight G&L I currently own. It is a keeper for sure.

Ebony has been a favorite fretboard wood of mine for quite some time. I really like G&L's Ebony they got in the past as they do not stain it and it can have a lot of character.Salmon wrote:Good choice with the ebony fretboard wood designing this guitar. I hope to have some free time next week and weather permitting, will take some photos of the Z-3, along with some others which I have not yet posted about.jediguitarist wrote:This!!!darwinohm wrote:Yep, that is a keeper.
