More Fallout Love

As most of you learned yesterday, my favorite G&L dealer is closing their local location April 1. I had to check in there today as I have been watching a Himalayan Blue Fallout with a matching headstock. It is not exactly what I would have ordered but close. I would have preferred a gloss neck. Anyway, the deal was perfect and I told Corey that it was going home with me. I wasn't exactly in the market for a new one but we have to make decisions. I checked the setup, it is very close and it feels great. The real bonus is that it weighed in at 7 Lbs 3 Oz.That makes it a winner for me. Seeing in person can make it a real deal. I have not plugged it in and will not have time until next week as I have just load up for a gig. You may ask "how can you buy a guitar without plugging it in"? I do it all the time and haven't been disappointed yet! G&L's are predictable. It also has the football jack. Here it is.-- Darwin





It has a Tortoise pickguard which looks nice with the rosewood but a Black would have also been nice.

I hear that !! ..... I like em a lot too , light weight easy and to play , I'll probably go American Fallout , but I do like that new clear orange tribby Fallout with pearloid guard , ..... I;m still surprised how different the SC 2 and LE 2 neck pups sound for being the same , they sure don't sound like it

Are they the same? Here I thought one was a P-90 and the other the large MFD. Or is it that they are both P-90's? I thought the SC-2 had a large MFD and the Fallout a P-90 in the neck position.

The Fallout has a G&L P-90 Alnico neck pickup while the SC-2 and LE-2 both have a MFD Jumbo Single coil pickup in the neck.

FF, I still would like to know the DC-R for both the SC-2 and the LE-2 neck pickups. That will tell us whether or not they are the same pickup or
whether one is wound differently than the other.

I almost brought my Fluke meter home tonight , but we been using it all week I was afraid I would forget to take it back to work , I will bring it home for sure this weekend

Himalayan blue on the SC2 body = winner. Best looking Fallout/LE2 I've seen.

Funny how baby blue can be part of a bad-bum guitar.

If the LE 2 neck is a large MFD then I would likely go for one of the Fallouts to have a P-90 in the neck.

The Himalayan looks fantastic on your guitar, it really suits the Fallout and works great as a headstock colour. Really old Fender vibe about the whole thing, makes me feel about 12 years old (1/2 century ago!) to look at your photos. The word seems to be that the Fallout is a great combination of pickups and weight, and is fun and musical. Love yours!

I never would have thought tortoise shell pg with blue but that looks really nice.

I now recall seeing the red SC-2. When I wrote that "...I am closer to an SC-2 style guitar seeing one get the nod of ownership from Darwin" I should have said "seeing a Fallout get the nod of ownership from Darwin." That more accurately reflects what was behind the words. Without attempting to explain it, in my mind Darwin owning an SC-2 is different than Darwin owning a Fallout.

Thanks everyone! A fallout without a pickguard would be perfect. I have always liked the balance of the SC-2 but the Fallout is 3/4 of a pound lighter, even better for me. I will plug it in this weekend.

I am unloading from a gig last night but on side note I am preparing for a trip to Colorado in a week. My 13 year old granddaughter is competing in the Junior Olympics in Colorado week after next and I am driving out to spend a week and bring them back. It will be a blast! -- Darwin

I finally had a chance to really get into my Fallout today. I picked up the missing saddlelock screw and decided to get serious about the setup. It wasn't quite as low action and the E saddles were just above the plate. What the heck. I decided to remove the neck and do a brass shim. This is the tightest G&L neck pocket that I have seen. It was difficult to remove the neck. There were also no dates or writing in the pocket or neck so they must have had to fit this one. The workmanship on this one is stellar. String alignment is perfect. After raising the saddles to the string height I wanted I checked for string buzz. There is none and the fret work is as it should be. Adjusted intonation and this one was easy. String alignment over both pickups is dead on. Locked the saddle and ready for the test.

I plugged it into my 76 Vibrasonic Reverb and adjusted the bridge height for the balanced level after changing the string height and shimming the neck. I was kind of surprised how quiet these pickups are. They are also very clear and the P90 is smooth and creamy. The middle position is also very nice, sweet and atriculate, no noise, just clean tone. The HB has a bit more growl and would be the one I would use the least by itself. The whole deal covers a nice spectrum of tone. This guitar could do a lot of things. No ice pick tone in this one. Just smooth and pleasant. The middle position is nice. I like it and I especially like the football jack. No issues with this and it feels a lot more solid and precise than the recent barrel jacks I have had. I am going to split the coils when I have a chance. The nut is cut a bit lower on this one than my other G&Ls. It feels really nice. I am a happy camper. I can honestly say there isn't much else in the G&L camp that I need. I am well set. I would like to see one of these in the Tribute model.-- Darwin

Bittersweet. I am happy you are happy but I am sad that this could mark the end to expanding your collection. Selfish of me I know. It is human nature needing someone to aspire to if not to live vicariously through.
