Is my ASAT polyurethane or lacquer?
I have a 2004 ASAT Classic that I picked up last week. I've had both lacquered and polyurethane finished guitars in the past. Lacquered finishes have a sweet smell to them when you open the case; even years after they were built. This ASAT has that same sweet smell to it and the finish has a slightly sticky feel compared to my poly 2008 American Strat. Am I imagining things or did G&L build some 2004 guitars with lacquered finishes. The guitar is black I should add with a wood binding. I don't want anyone to think I'm a finish snob; I don't care either way. I would just like to know for the sake of caring for the finish. I was told this was a Limited Edition guitar that year but have no way to prove it.

If you post the serial number, as many specs as you know about it and a picture people might be able to help to identify the design as a limited edition.

It's must be poly. The Rustic series (Nitrocellulose finishes) did not start until 2009. Hope this helps.

Thanks for clearing that up. Much thinner looking finish than my Fender and the sweet smell had me wondering.Craig wrote:It's must be poly.
