Hey men !
look at what came home with me last saturday !
it is simply the biggest hit I took soundwise since I play the guitar (23 years and counting).
It's a Matchless Chieftain 2x10 combo from 1995, I had a good price, it is first hand never gigged.
It is unbelievable ! Needless to say it loves my G&L's. I'm eager to rehearse with it, and I'm gonna gig it next saturday. I'll post a report.
I think I'm not gonna sell this one ever

hey Xavier,
WOW!!!
I can only imagine the tonal bliss you must be having! Like Sam, a Matchless is on the top of my GAS list as well. I can't wait to hear how it does at your gig!
Enjoy.

Actually Matchless weren't on top of my GAS list because of the price (maybe in dreams), then suddenly this combo showed his head on a french website I visit daily when I'm in a GAS emergency.
The price was in my range, I wanted a 2x10 forever, I love single channel amps, I love a clean and (very) dynamic sound, my blood didn't made two turns, I pulled the trigger and went to Lille (230 km from where I live), I chose the S-500 to put it through his pace, the shop had even a Hardwood Boogie Mark III, I did a quick A/B... no way, the Matchless is too good to pass on !
It's a sort of Vibroverb à la Matchless, with a hint of Vox and Marshall in there.
I rehearse tonight with it, can't wait

Supereiv, I've not done research on these. Are they El34, Marshall type amps? Looks great! -- Darwin

not really Marshall type, more of a vox-fender tweed-Marshall plexi if that makes sense.
it's a 40w - two EL34 - two 12AX7 for the tone stack, two 12AX7 for the reverb and one 5AR4 rectifier.
it sounds a bit like a Plexi but less aggressive, and it has some sag in the low end, like a tweed, but the cleans are really in the vox family.

Sounds like it has a hint of EL84 chime in its DNA somewhere. Nice score! Magnifique!
