I just purchased a Legacy Deluxe w/ a maple flame top. It was advertised from an online store as a swamp ash body. The G&L website today and for a while has said it was shipped with a swamp ash body. However, I received the guitar yesterday and find it has a mahogany body. It is a Legacy Deluxe with a flamed maple top otherwise. I was thinking the guitar might be old stock at first, but the certificate that came with it said it was finished only in September. So, I am wondering what to think here?
It seems to me that any tonal qualities would come mainly from the maple top, so the body shouldn't really matter as far as that is concerned. I like the guitar, so I would be hesitant to send it back anyway.
Maybe G&L considered this a complimentary upgrade and maybe I should feel better that I have something unique?
Thoughts?

See this post in our G&L Knowledgebase: What different body woods has the S-500 Deluxe model had?.crazycm wrote:I just purchased a Legacy Deluxe w/ a maple flame top. Note that this also applies to the Legacy Deluxe model, too.
Please post some photos of your Legacy Deluxe, including one showing the back of the body. For posting photos, please see: Tutorial: Posting photos.
Looking forward to seeing your guitar.

Thanks, Craig.
Any further insight on the use of mahogany vs swamp ash? Perhaps the switch to swamp ash for a time was economic?

No, I don't think it was due to economics. It was likely that the dealer ordered it that way, either for a customer or to have in stock.crazycm wrote:Thanks, Craig.

Why don't you ask the dealer you got it from, since they mistakenly advertised it as Swamp Ash or perhaps shipped you the wrong guitar?
What does the Custom Build Certificate say for the body wood and does the serial number match the one on the guitar?
I'd still like to see some photos.
Also, please do add it to our G&L Registry.

Re: Legacy Deluxe w/ Mahogany Body, not Ash
I just posted my guitar on the gallery under "crazycm"
I do think the online dealer possibly didn't open the box from G&L. It didn't look opened at all. The SN and the cert are just fine and match the guitar.
As I mentioned in my first post, I am not disappointed. It is a beautiful guitar and the back does look nice. I was just looking for some sort of an explanation as to why it might be a mahogany body vs a swamp ash. It sounds as if your explanation is that it was a custom order or that the entire line has been shifted to mahogany. If you could clarify, that would be great.
This is not exactly an easy guitar to find, so the mahogany body isn't as important to me as the maple honey burst and the humbucker.

It's the same deal as the S-500 Deluxe as I mentioned above with the reference to that post. However, I see that the Legacy Deluxe spec page is out of datecrazycm wrote:I just posted my guitar on the gallery under "crazycm"

and did not get updated when the change to Mahogany body was done in 2011. I have brought this to Dave McLaren's attention, so at some point it will get updated.
I fixed your photos (resized them) in the Gallery, so now you should be able to post them inline using the instructions in the Tutorial.
Hope this helps.
