N(U)GD!

Post by Nnanji »

I found this beauty at my local guitar center, nobody seemed to want her and she went from $699 to $599 to $529...

USA Legacy hardtail in Blue Metalflake with a maple neck. Active pickups, 2006 serial number. Clearly a custom job. Plays like a dream and the active pickups really have some punch!

That is purty! Isn't if funny how the pricing always works to our advantage. If everyone knew there would be no low prices. Which one is next? What pickups are in it?-- Darwin

That's what I was thinking. If they were more popular you could never buy for this price.

I'm not sure whose pickups they are. They are stark white with no markings. They sound awesome and the back has two battery slots.

That is a 2012 or early 2013 model. Show us a close-up of the pickup tops. Battery boxes are nicely mounted. Also a gorgeous color.-- Darwin

The metallic blue with black guard and maple neck has tempted me. If I had not already had what I had I would have gone for it by now. I don't think I will ever have enough guitars to have one now but you never know. I would try to get a read on the pickup brand and replace the white covers with black though. Nice score at $529.00. I need to make a point of dropping in at the Guitar Center around here. I have only gone there to beeline for something I was set on purchasing for a quick in & out. I did take the opportunity to try every potential keyboard action they had on display but I did not try any guitars. No G&L's were in stock when I have been there.

I guess I assumed the "06" was 2006. My mistake. You can check Guitar Center online and look at your local used inventory anytime. You don't see many G&L's that's true. I saw a nice sunburst Tribute Legacy at GC Walnut Creek the other day. This one was in San Marcos, CA.

Thanks! It was in there a while and I was going back and forth. I can't believe they had it as long as they did. When it dropped in price yet again I just couldn't resist. It's a great and unique addition to my collection. Now I have 4, two Tributes and two USA models. :happy0007:

I'm guessing these pups are Dragonfires, that's the only ones I can find with no markings. Maybe a set of black EMG's would be a nice upgrade...

Actually they started in February of 2011.

Nnanji, did you get the Custom Build Specifications sheet with this guitar? I would be interesting in knowing what pickups are listed.

No I didn't unfortunately. It was from GC so it was just an as is with no case or anything. Like I said I am guessing they are Dragonfire's since that is the only ones I can find with no markings, but that seems an odd choice for a custom job out the factory since they are really low end subs for EMG (from what I can tell.)

And of course I noted the color wrong, it's midnight blue metallic not metalflake. Sweet guitar though, awesome action and neck.

FWIW, sometimes the folks who sell to GC are regular customers at that store and the sales clerks know them. I have been able to get background information on a couple of G&Ls I've purchased by having sales clerks ask the seller the next time he came in. It could be worth asking about.

I finally had the sense to do some web searching found the original ebay listing on this one. Interesting stuff!

“Up for grabs is my 2012 G&L legacy hardtail with dragonfire david gilmour pickups. I had two battery compartments installed so I could run them at 18V for increased headroom. This guitar is insane! It is in near mint condition having only a slight scratch on the back of the guitar as barely seen on the picture. The pickup characteristics are the same as with the EMG David Gilmours. All three knobs are push-pull. The volume knob, when pulled activates 7-way switching activating the middle pickup selector position to activate all three pickups. The middle tone knob when pulled, is a bypass for the all of the goodies. The bottom tone knob (and best of all) is a expander which makes the pickups thicker sounding, essentially making them into humbuckers. The neck is a smooth sateen finish with a slim C contour. ”

So they are Dragonfire 8C SA pickups and he did some special mods. I feel sorry for the guy...I hope he just decided to get a new guitar and needed the money for that. I can't imagine why you would sell this guitar, it feels and plays like a dream.

Well at least it went to a good home where it will get the love and care it deserves! :happy0007:

No not at all. I don't use them all that much and really like the saddle lock bridge. They are so rock solid and great for palm muting. I love that it's a hardtail.

In fact I have considered having a Legacy Deluxe made for me, it's kind of my "dream" to order a custom Greenburst deluxe with matching headstock. I may go for the hardtail there when/if I ever hit that switch.
