~ TUESDAY LUNCH REPORT ~

Post by Katefan »

Welcome to Day 2...

Thanks to those who participated yesterday.

Only had a couple submissions for the custom creative contest.... I have my fave of the 2 but gonna let Jackie deem who's winner...
Will post her answer later today.

Congrats to Jos for guessing Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam + getting 2 of the 3 albums... the 3rd was Mother Love Bone - a re-release of their debut album, Apple. Not alot folks are aware of the band that gave birth to Pearl Jam but in Seattle they were huge as they were one of first local acts to get national attention. Sadly, their singer, Andrew Wood, died of a heroin overdose days before Apple was to be released. Stone and Jeff (Ament), the bass player joined together w/ Chris Cornell, lead singer of Soundgarden, who also was Andy's roommate at the time to write record a couple songs in his memory.
That turned into Temple of the Dog and that in turn spawned Pearl Jam...
Both Apple and Temple of the Dog were re-leased after Pearl Jam's swift success.
Btw, Brock - Neil Young's Mirror Ball which featured Pearl Jam was released in '95 so no 4th one but a good guess.

Forgot to mention lunch yesterday... not surprisingly tho - I didnt have one... had a late brekkie and then an early dinner...
Lunch today will consist of an organic barbequed chicken hind quarter, some black-eyed peas and veggies - red kale and yellow onion to be exact... some tasty organic corn chips and I'il wash it all down with a bottle of Organic High Country Kombucha - ginger.

G&L Content/Porn

I have 6 G&L guitars most of which I've picked up at swapmeets or pawnshops. All have had some kind of modification/alterations/abuse done to them.
I prefer them that way for the most part but sometimes it can be a bit much...

Case in point...

Exhibit A -

Image

This is Spot's Sybil - acquired at the Sports Arena Swapmeet in San Diego. Some of you may remember seeing her Mary Jane (or ???) influenced motif. She also sported some scary cryptic sharpie marker drawings and inscriptions - Crikey! (common Kiwi expression)

After Spot got her, he stripped her of all that and unearthed her stock finish - or what was left of it. I Love her new look and think she's one of the coolest & sexiest G&L's I've come upon.

Here's a couple shots of what she looks like today...

Moving along to -

Exhibit B

I got this SC-1 off the internet from a guy who answered a wanted ad I had posted on here... I was looking for just a black MFD pu cover and ended up getting much more and another 'what were they thinking???' piece.

I couldnt be bothered to make a p/g so I just stuck in a MFD and slapped some tape and a bumper sticker on her...

As you can see, the back as well as the headstock are nearly pristine... she also has a Fab neck on her. She's the most resonant guitar i own so I'm fond of keeping her but I'm not fond of investing more $ into her - so sadly I may sell her.
I'm also not a fan of the one pu style - esp since its not the original. I once had a bastardised early SC-2 w/ stock pus - proly the best sounding ones I've ever heard... lost it in a move - but thats another story for another day...

So what I would like to know is - what would you do to her if you owned her? And post any monstrosities you have or have owned.
Most entertaining, creative, inventive or hideous response wins a limited edition David Gilmour DVD.
Word up.

Music Vids

I believe I posted this before but thought I'd do so again as it features some early model G&L's and keeps with today's theme.
This band as most of you know were an early sponsor of G&L and a personal Fav of Leo's. Interestingly - the guitarist, Robert Poss, mod'd his SC-1 guitars by adding a p/g. Cool move IMO.
You can see it in the vid as well as some other mod'd G&Ls....

Love that tune... BOS kinda of remind me of a local Seattle band and another fav of mine called Sky Cries Mary...
Check em out...

Music Trivia

Ok - Aerosmith covered a James Brown tune on one of their albums. Prince also make reference to the same song in one of his hits.
What is the James Brown song? - Also name the Prince tune that references it along with the stated lyrics... and the Aerosmith album its on.

Ok guys. that does it for today...

Hope ya have some fun and a nice Tues Arvo!

Cheers,

If I had your SC-1... Hmmm...

I would ideally like to restore it to its one pickup glory, because I love one pickup guitars. There is just something direct about them. No choice, no switches, just play! I dig that.

The problem is to determine how to patch up that body without refinishing the whole guitar. That may not be feasible, but its worth a try IMHO.

I really like what you did on the Cannabis motif guitar. Taking it down to the original finish and plugging the bass pick up route with a metal plate looks great. That there is a rocking guitbox! :elguitar054:

James Brown covered by Aerosmith? I would guess Cold Sweat, but I don't really know.

Nice vids- I know Band of Susans, but they are an aquired taste that I have yet to reach.

Good report.

Interesting guitars, little beater for my taste..

I am frankly amazed how you managed to find the gap in my musical taste (it is pretty small) but you are consistantly landing in it, great work!

no clue on James brown/aerosmith thing but if you find some non organic foods let me know (this is me poking fun of what people choose to call organic it all contains the carbon that makes it so :P)

I am not one likely to revive a presumed damaged guitar into some sort of playable existence, but did notice what I take to be Crate Vintage Club amps in the picture with the ganjatar. I have a Crate Vintage Club 30 (circa 1993 or so) that I currently play my Blues Boy through, and though it does seem one-dimensional to me, that dimension is one that I am pretty happy with at this time.

Are they your amps? I don't see many of them around so was somewhat taken by them in the picture.

Thanks! I'm fond of simplicity as well. Yeah, that's what I was thinking hence just slapping a sticker on her...

re the Superhawk - Chadd did all that after I sold it to him.... at first he was thinking of repainting it another color but later decided to go with the original finish... was pleased to see that as I'm fond of knackered instruments.

Nice guess but no go...

LOL - nicely put.

Btw, Judge Jackie's verdict is in - you win yesterday's contest - Congrat! Seeing how you're a low ender I can subsitute a blues cd for the SIT Strings if you prefer -how does Muddy Blues - A Tribute to Muddy Waters by Paul Rodgers & friends work?

Let me know -
Cheers

Cool - Thanks - Not trying to but glad to hear that.

Yeah, yeah... technically you're correct...but saying organic is easier than saying sprayed, irradiated, GMO'd etc...

Thanks for chiming in.

They used to be - had 2 of them - picked them up cheap in deals... sold them both last year prior to my move back up to Seattle... Yeah, I've owed a few versions of the early 90's models and they all sounded great.
Cheaply made (like most mass produced amps nowadays) and somewhat prone to intermittent problems (mainly channel switch) but definately cool sounding tube amps on the cheap.

Yup ... love the industrial look of that beast. I think spot posted a pic o week or two ago without the 302 logo.

Man I love the trivia ....

Used to have a copy of this album way back .... I think it might have moved to Sydney around the time my brother took a job over there. Not sure about the Prince connection though.

cheers, Robbie

Hey Robbie - Good to hear from ya!

Thanks! Yeah - much prefer your part of the globe...

Word. Hmmmmm- now that you mention it I don't recall seeing it on there last week when we were jamming over at his place...

Nicely Done on suss'n the Trivia and glad you're diggin it.

Cool - my eldest Sis owned it back in the day...It ended up in my hands tho as I was always 'borrowing' it. Actually found it on CD a few years back...not a popular album of theirs but I dig it... esp for the JB tune.

Want to see more of AUS at some point.... flew both times to NZ via Sydney - can't see much from the airport.

Cheers Mate,

JBo
