Fallout - Tell me about yours

Post by SamIV »

For some reason, and I am not typically a fan of odder shaped guitars, I keep watching the same two videos by JustNick of him playing his Fallout. I have a few G&L's, but nothing in this configuration or shape. I am more of a classic rock kind of guy, but have also been enjoying playing very clean as of late. My favorite guitar shape to play is the ASAT style guitar. How do these feel compared to an ASAT. These days I play sitting down 99% of the time as well so the tummy tuck is a nice feature. Maybe it is just the pain meds talking to me, I had hernia surgery today, but I have become slightly fascinated with this guitar. Let me know about American and Tributes as well.

Me too!!
I have also been watching those videos. I wish the owners here on this forum would get some video up. It always helps me to see vids of different guys who play different styles. The Fallout looks like a swiss knife with only 2 pickups. I wish I could find one in Nashville to look at. So far no luck.

Sam, I don't believe there are many. I did a search of the Registry and only came up with 2, both registered to the same owner. Sorry, but I can't help.-- Darwin

A lot of regulars around here are waiting for the GbL Limited Edition 2 to start shipping. The LE2 is an upgraded Fallout. When that happens, you will probably see a lot of discussion. So far, there has been far more speculation about Fallouts than reports from owners.

I have a Fallout and have been really enjoying it. Light weight, nice cutaways, versatile. Prior to the Fallout I had a used ASAT Special which is a real cool guitar but I returned it because the frets were too worn and the store's tech couldn't get it right around the 15-17 frets. It's heavier and not as comfy against the body compared to the Fallout but that's not to say its uncomfortable. Just that the Fallout is very comfortable.

The band I use the Fallout in plays 80's rock, recent Nashville country and some pop. Between the bridge and neck pickup I can cover a lot of ground with the one guitar. I'm not sure what you are wanting but if you have specific questions I'll do my best to answer. I don't do videos but I do on occasion make recordings and put them on Soundclick or Soundcloud. Nothing of the Fallout though. For me, regardless of what I read, saw or listened to online, I couldn't fully appreciate the guitar until it was in my hands. Half the pleasure I get from the guitar is in the whole tactile experience.

Want to thank the ones who replied especially the one and only owner so far, MJ Slaughter. The only one I can find in a 1 1/2 hour driving distance is a Tribute that I will get out and try when I am able. Recently had a little surgery that is keeping me close to home. I don't mind that it is a Tribute, I have a ASAT Special Deluxe that has one of the best necks of all of my guitars. It has rolled edges, perfect frets, birdseye fingerboard, and although I prefer rosewood, this one is very special. If it sounds anywhere near the Just Nick video and plays well, I don't have an issue getting another Tribute, I own four others I like as well.

I have a fallout that I play regularly - i love it. It has a great range of tones from a rounded almost jazzy front pick up to a real bitey gretsch like tone from the rear pick up with a nice twangy middle position (I use mostly). Sometimes it sounds like a tele and others like an SG or les paul but it surely has its own voice overall. It s light and comfortable to play standing or sitting and gives me a diverse range of tones to complement my SC2. When driven by a pedal into nice valves it sings and sustains beautifully. The hardest part of writing about it is that I cant quite define it yet. Every time I play it I find a different expressive colour and they are all good. I reckon this is one you grow with and into. Definitely a long term relationship rather than a one night stand.

cheers
