G&L Swag??

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

G&L Swag??

Post by teleburst »

Around 2006, I bought my first of many USA G&L guitar. The thought came to me that "Hey - I'd like a T-shirt or something to show my support for G&L". Went to their website, and found a nice selection of shirts, ball caps, etc.

Nowadays, it's pretty slim pickin's, and I'm just wondering if that's truly all that there is available for G&L swag, or am I just that far out of the loop and am not aware of a different site or online store where they sell a better selection? I searched Google a hundred times, and keep checking their website regularly. I find nothing on the Google searches, and though the website online store stays fairly updated, the clothing selection is very limited at best.

Is that all there is? Thanks.

I'm with you on that one. I bought my first G&L, 2008 Bluesboy and then looked for swag. I ordered some stuff from the online store, parts and added a Touque. Touque is small and won't fit my head, lol

I think we should figure out how to design and sell GuitarsByLeo, t-shirts....

I bought my first PRS bass last fall, and immediately decided I wanted a nice PRS strap to sling it from. There were so many choices (in terms of materials, widths, designs and prices) that I couldn't make up my mind in time to get one on my Christmas wish list. I've had about thirty G&Ls pass through my hands over the past three years, but after one futile search I gave up on finding any G&L swag. It would be nice if something was out there.

Too true, Ken. PRS' website and online store is amazing!!! I haven't owned a PRS for about a year now, though I do check out their store frequently. Always a nice slection of clothing, coffee mugs, etc., as well as pickups, straps, strings, etc. G&L still has the parts available in the online store, but I remember a much better clothing selection 6 or 7 years ago. I still have the coffee cup I bought back then, and I still love it. Maybe one day they'll have a good selection again.

One other thing about PRS:

When I was looking at their swag, I ended up on eBay and found some obviously counterfeit items. I wouldn't have bothered doing this for most manufacturers, but since PRS is a local employer I contacted their customer service to let them know about the fakes. Within minutes I had a response from somebody at the factory, thanking me for letting them know about it. A short while later I sent another email asking about their factory setup specs on a discontinued model (one of the few that wasn't on their website), and again had a response within an hour.

I railed about this several years ago, but Darth Invader kind of shot me down. Eventually some items did appear, but it seems to have fallen by the wayside.

I for one would really like to see them market a nice strap.

I had to laugh when I saw Fleetwood Mac in concert last summer. I'm sure they made more money off the marketing sales items than they did their performance fees.

Acts are attempting whatever level of money grab their name allows them because of diminishing royalty revenue, there are only so many people willing to pay for anything and only so many performances they can do in a lifetime. With John McVie's cancer I wonder whether the last opportunity for everyone to make as much as possible (especially for John's sake) wasn't on Christine's mind when she finally rejoined the band for the coming tour. She had sold most of her gear proclaiming no intent to tour again.

The only band junk hawked at concerts that has interested me has been the printed programs if done well.

The G&L logo has a don't look at the carrot thing going in my mind. It reminds me of school letters on a letterman's jacket. The way G&L appears on the instruments is fine. I am not a fan of G&L logo candy, however, anything can be a starting point for working magic if the door is opened. There have been many advertising themes where the same logo has appeared worked up in multiple effects. In the process of overcoming the letterman jacket look I think the way the G&L logo is presented in ads and on logo products could become something in and of itself.

Same logo with different treatments:

Any Photoshop wizards want to play with the G&L logo?

(I didn't do any of this. The girl is from a PS tutorial online titled "Virtual Weightloss")
