HI
I purchased a 2012 Legacy, and the truss rd nut looks a little worn. I am thinking if I need to tighten it in the future, it might strip.
Anyway, the headstock access hole is not like my other G&L ( long and flat ), it is sort of short in length and the nut is down to the bottom of the hole, I have had to cut my wrench to enable to get it fully into the nut.
It is like this one

How difficult is ti to replace the nut with the nut bearing on the botom of the hole. Looking at it, for the nut to come out as you loosen it, the truss rod would need to bend upwards for the nut to pop out .
Any expereinces or thoughts ?

Looking on Ebay ,I have noticed different truss rod hole profiles for the same type of neck ?...I thought they are all currently C&C routed ?

Mine is like the secon link..short and oversized, but with the nut at the bottom of the access hole.

Re: Replacing Truss Rod nut-2012 Legacy
Paul, I have addressed this question before. http://guitarsbyleo.com/FORUM/viewtopic ... nut#p62679. That was my solution. The truss rod nut has changed in recent years from the 1/8 allen to the 4mm head size. I much preferred the old style as it was easier to adjust. The hole profile has also changed at times. For a while (2010 to maybe 1012) the hole was drilled before the fingerboard was attached due to a factory machine being repaired. There was a post on that but I'm not sure where it is. They have since gone back to boring the hole with the fretboard attached. I have removed the truss rod nut from at least 3 of my G&Ls and have always been able to remove and reinstall them. The most recent was a 4mm head nut. I cannot guarantee yours but I have done it. I replaced the 4mm nut for the same reason that you have mentioned. I personally think the short wrench is the solution but who am I to say. The recess in the head isn't very deep and you have to make sure the wrench is all the way in-- Darwin

Thanks for your comment, that is reassuring !!
I have also cut my wrench down like yours to ensure it goes all the way into the nut. The angle of the bottom of the access hole prevented the wrench going all the way in, which is why I think the outside of the hex nut looks a little chewed.
Cutting the wrench now allows it to go all the way in .
Do you know if the nuts are installed aftr neck finishing or before. If it installed after, then it must also come out easy enough.

Paul, I think they are installed after the neck is painted. I have never seen clear coat on them. I suspect that as you loosen the nut the rod may lift up a bit.-- Darwin
