If she gives me stuff like this, ...

Post by yowhatsshakin »

... I want it to be my birthday everyday! Big surprise today when the FedEx guy dropped this off at my doorstep, with my lovely wife grinning in the background. Up to that moment, she hadn't presented me with a present yet and I was wondering...

Here she is, a 2009 C.L.F. Centennial ASAT (barely can believe it):

and from the book "Leo and Me: My eleven years with guitar maker Leo Fender." by Mrs. Phyllis Fender, this alternative to the usual Certificate:

I dedicate this post to my true love in life, my darling wife Marjon. Thanks sweetheart!

Those look like great guitars. Congratulations. I look forward to a tone and ergonomics report (neck specifically) . I do know that they aren't giving those things away. Enjoy.

Thanks for your kind words MrRoundel. I just hope nobody wakes me up for it only to be a dream ;)

For the tone report I'll repeat what I stated in my posts in the G&L Porn category:
yowhatsshakin wrote:I love the aluminum pickguard. The red Trinity also has a black wrinkle powder-coated pickguard that Bob Page put on there and both of these guitars are noticeable quieter in the single pickup selection than my others. The in-between settings do not seem to make a difference between the aluminum and plastic pickguard guitars. And the Centennial has a kind of clarity to it that I have not heard before. Don't know whether it's the wood, the 7½" radius of the fretboard (most of mine are 12"), the hand-wound pickups, or the hardware, but this one rings like a bell.
The ergonomics: I have many different neck-shapes: thick, wide-fat, wide-thin, V-shaped, etc. Never been a real stickler on a particular kind of neck as long as it fits comfortably in my big hands. I have to check my Broadcaster to see whether that has a 7½" radius board too (I think so), but most of my guitars have 12" radii. The neck has a medium thickness I would say. Certainly not 'baseball bat'. But strung with 0.010's, I have not encountered the problem of fretting out yet; a problem that I have seen frequent references to. It plays a little different for sure, but no particular like or dislike. The overall sound is just fantastic, see above. And if my Broadcaster has a 7½" radius board, that is another thing these 2 guitars would have in common. As I learn more, I'll keep you posted.
