Somewhat strange-looking bird, from that pic; I don't know what to make of it.
Looks like some far-eastern tourist object, + with stoned eyes. Not complimentary to CLF's signature.
Perhaps I'm wrong, and it's a piece of art.

It looks to be a legit ASAT Classic Signature model. The bird inlay probably had been done aftermarket and not at the G&L factory.Fumble fingers wrote:nice looking guitar , is the "inlay" from the factory where it says leo Fender on the horn ?? .... it has a Bird flying or something right below leo's signeture

I believe the bird is beautifully done. It might look better if the signature were proportionally smaller or elsewhere. It would not be a reason to avoid this guitar as far as I am concerned. Reminds me of Ron Thorn's work:

I've seen a couple of ASATs with inlays in that general position, and they've all been from around the same period as yours. I used to have an '88 with a script "L" inlay. The CAR finish was original, and I could see no indications that the inlay wasn't original to the guitar.
