Inlays in maple boards

Post by NickHorne »

I'd be grateful if anyone could advise on this question:
What's G&L's default inlay in maple boards these days? Abalone or Black?
And is there a choice, or just the one? Inlay doesn't appear on the "options" menu at G&L's site.
I'm about to finalise a maple-necked custom order, and hadn't thought to check this!
Thanks!

I didn't see any options about inlay lately, but I don't wear a black belt in G&L knowledge :fighting0030:
One thing : my Classis S has black abalone on TG maple Neck, and it looks good

Here are 2 examples on my WR's - one with black, the other with white MOP inlays. I don't think they were happy doing the black skulls.

Based upon the factory photos posted on the G&L Facebook page (and which I post many of them on the G&L Porn!!! sub-forum),
it looks like they are using black abalone fret dots for Maple fretboards. The only "off-menu" option for fret dot markers is
"no inlay, just side dots" off-menu option. I recommend that you talk with the dealer you will be ordering from and ask them to contact
the sales rep or factory to see if there are any other "off-menu" fret dot marker options.

Let us know what you find out.

Thanks everyone!
I love Will's skulls, both ways.

I'll post how this order ends up.

WIll,

Is there something special in the headstock finish of the neck with black skulls? It looks like it is touched with a propane torch. Is that just shadowing from something in the room?

I love the light wood of natural G&L maple necks. That one with the pearl is a fine example. I think the pearl skulls on the natural tinted neck look ghostly. It is a very cool effect.

Will's maple neck with the pearl skulls is a piece of art, isn't it?
His signature Asat works brilliantly too; it's a great design.

The Something in the Room might possibly answer to Mac Whiteside?

Thanx Nick. Yes, that darker one has been torched by the one and only (drum roll).............. Mac Whiteside!

He's a welder, owns a blowtorch, and isn't afraid to use it.

Then fill them with ....nope, ya ain`t gonna get that answer...not a biggie though. What a pain ! They coulda but they freaked out `cause they were BLACK !!!! Racists ! Whatever ! Be happy Will ! And no, they ain`t gonna admit they got these done for us. I know ! Off to the other side....
