Re: My new Comanche
Would you like to share the details of how you found and acquired this?
Was it NOS?
That neck is dark and vivid. I have not seen a neck that tint in a G&L before. Everything on that guitar meshes so well. It looks like the builder chose what to match together carefully.
This is one of the top five Comanches I have seen.
You are very fortunate to have been able to acquire that.

Re: My new Comanche
Thanks!
Because of the serial number I assume it's built in 2008, but I will have to took it apart. A proper setup has to be done anyway.
I'm the fourth owner, but the first one who will seriously play it. The second owner, living in Vienna/Austria, got it from a collector and sold it to a guy in Germany. That one had to acquire money just a few days after he got it, at least that's what he told me, and did send me private message in another board, as he knew I was looking for an US Comanche, after I got that Tribute one. So it went back to Austria.
It only has one issue: It weights 4kg (8.13 lbs), but that's no problem for me and exactly the same weight, which my Tribute Comanche has.
Another thing is the tremolo arm. It's flat and pretty unusable. So I will have to bend it and I hope that will work. That's strange as the arm from the tribute had the issue of being to long at the short part and I had to cut it. Somehow the Tribute arm doesn't exactly fit, but I didn't try with force and the arm of my Legacy doesn't fit at all, so I think it's already a metric socket. The nylon inlay was missing at the socket, so the arm already has some scratches.
On the hang thag there's written TGN (tint gunoil neck), BE (birds eye), LT (locking tuners), LN#1 (neck option #1).
I'm not sure for PRL, ist that pearloid pick guard?
And MP, no idea for that.
What about Z7Z111?

The neck almost looks like roasted maple. That's a cool tint.

Re: My new Comanche
These Comanches with a flame top in Honey Burst, white pearl pickguard and birdseye GOT maple necks have occupied the top position on my list for Comanches. I have wanted one and for a while I was actively on the hunt. I just missed two of the best deals by a month when my interested sparked. I learned of those sales looking at Completed sales on ebay. I have not seen anything close to those deals since. While scouting I noticed that some people have opted to make a few changes to this design scheme. When they omit the flame top I have always been disappointed no matter how beautiful the wood grain. It has been akin to hitting a flat note to me. However Miles's 2-tone topless ash Comanche is the first to seriously compete and I believe it beats the Honey Burst flamed top oiled birdy neck design not only because everything is so strong, it is also unique. They are all beautiful guitars. Given the choice I would pick Miles's.
This is an example of the HB/flamed/birdseye GOT maple neck Comanche in 2nd place:

Never been a fan of the gun oil tinted neck, but in this case, stunning.

Is that a 2 color burst or a tobacco burst?

I really like it. Much prettier than the 3 tone IMO.

Thanks, the exactly same wishes for you, very nice Comanche you've got.Lacking Talent wrote:Congrats to the OP on a lovely acquisition -- enjoy!
I did mine run through a setup in the meantime and I've got a new vibrato arm. It's exactly what I hoped for and it's by way not as flat as the other one. Don't know how that happened, maybe one of the previous owners did something to it.
The vibrato plate was far too near to the body. The posts were screwed in as much as possible. To get the strings saddles to the right height, the screws for height adjustment were changed to ones 10mm long by somebody. As I adjusted the plate to 3/16 distance from the body, the plate was pulled toward the nut, when I retuned the strings, because the springs didn't have much to to before, as the vibrato plate was pressed to the felt washers and the vibrato was hard to move too by using the vibrato arm. So I already thought, I will have to change the number of springs, but now the vibrato works very smooth, as I know it from my other older DF equipped guitars.
Only one thing remaining: the height screws are now sticking out of the string saddles and so they are poking my palm. I've already ordered shorter ones, as the originals screws are gone. Hopefully they will fit, as I ordered them of type M3x5 and I should get them within the next days.
Funny thing, the vibrato on my Tribute Comanche is a bit too low too. Didn't care for that so far, but the vibrato is working a bit harder too. So I thought, the new DF systems are that way. I will have a setup with the Tribute too. And here again, probably a previous owner did destroy the factory setup.
