Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie here but I've done my share of reading on the board and wondered if you could help me with some basic info.
I just brought home a beautiful G&L USA Legacy but unfortunately it had no paperwork with it. The serial number is CLF60973 and it had already existed in the registry here but didn't tell me much.
Last night I took the neck off and it had no stamps whatsoever with regards to a date. The neck pocket has a partial date but I can't tell the year.
I'm not very familiar with G&L fit and finishes but I think it's a #1 neck profile and Graphite Metallic is the color (almost looks purple-ish in the correct light). I think the neck has the light tint gloss finish and I think it's a rosewood board?
I've added a few photos here for you to look at and if anything sticks out to you experts that would tell me more about the guitar's age (post 1998 with the CLF) or something else about the guitar, I would love to hear about it.
Is it common to NOT have any date info on the neck?
Thanks everyone!

Bluesboy, Welcome and you have a very nice Legacy. It is probably a 2011 with the gloss neck (my fav), an upcharge by the way and it is not unusual to have some of the printing missing. It was probably sanded a bit during the fitting of the neck. -- Darwin

Welcome, Bluesboy! That's a nice Legacy. I agree with Darwin on everything except the date. Modern G&Ls aren't my strong point, but IIRC they had gone over to the "microwave tags" for serial numbers by the beginning of 2011. Since your serial number is on a decal under the finish, it would put your guitar no later than 2010. The CLF serial number definitely puts it after 1998, as you pointed out. You could get a reasonable approximation by searching on a narrow range around that serial number (for example, CLF60000 through CLF62000) in the Registry.
It looks like a rosewood board to me, and I believe the finish is Graphite Metallic. The only example of that finish I've seen in person looked a lot darker to me, but it was not in bright light like your photo.

I think that Ken is right. It may be a 2011 as I have 30 th aniv. Asat Classic which I purchased in March of 2011 with a serial number of 59075 and a Legacy with serial number 58660 which has a 2010 build date.-- Darwin

Gentlemen,
Thanks so much for the info, I really appreciate it. I was stuck by how the guitar looked and in my opinion, got a great deal on it used so I took it home right away.
I've read all the arguments and comparisons towards and away from Fender, blah, blah, blah, so I knew how deep the water was in which I was treading LOL. That said, for the price I paid ($599) for a basically new guitar it blew everything else strat wise I had tried out of the water. I had been looking for a strat and stumbled across this at the 11th hour. I love Fender gear but I luckily had good experiences with G&L in the past but it has been a while.
USA quality and beautiful looks and tone? Yes please, LOL!

Love that Legacy!
My decaled 2010 begins with 45XXX (following CLF) so yours could have been built at the very last before G&L switched over to the serial number plate.
I have not pulled the neck to see whether mine was built at the beginning of 2010 or maybe even started at the end of 2009?
