Better Late Than Never

Post by TBillPSU »

This has been a few weeks in coming (I joined the board last month), but I finally got some pics of my lefty ASAT Cat.

First a little background: the ASAT Cat is a custom G&L build made for (and available exclusively through) Alley Cat Music in State College, PA. The story of the guitar can be found at their site here, but basically, it looks like an ASAT Special with an S-500 middle pickup. It has 7-way switching for the pickups which is similar (but not identical) to an S-500.

What I really like about it is that it has a warm tone with no loss of clarity; however, if I want to get a sound that's like my S-500, the tone control can be set accordingly.

The pics can be found here.

Hope you enjoy them!

Thanks Salmon -- for both the compliment and the repost of the pics. I re-read the how-to this morning, so I should get it right next time around.

One other note about the guitar: the body is made of Western Sugar Pine. I think that contributes to the sound that I like so much.

Cheers,

That is a beauty. I have a pine body Asat and I really like it. Is this one also quite light in weight?-- Darwin

I think it is, but I can't really answer from my own experience, since this is only my third solid body electric and the first ASAT I've owned. The Wood Database says that Western Sugar Pine is lighter than both alder (I think it's actually Red Alder) and Swamp Ash, so that would indicate that it is. Also, FWIW, others have told me that their Pine Run ASAT Cats are lighter than their other ASATs and Teles.

My ASAT Cat has to be slightly heavier than others in the pine run, because mine is the only solid body that does not have a body contour. (In fact, I'm pretty sure that my ASAT Cat is one of the few solid bodies-- possibly the only -- from either of the ASAT Cat runs that was made without a body contour.)

I can say for certain that it's lighter that it's lighter than my alder S-550, which I never considered too heavy.

Cheers,
TBill

Hey TBill

That is one seriously nice looking G&L you have there! The wood binding is such a nice touch.
