What isn't and what should be
This must be a loose end in G&L'S product line.
A NOS Lefty Z-coil guard , with the proper mirrored design ( treble pole pieces closest to the bridge ).
...but...no pickups like that,
...yet.
This guy must have a pallet of gear from the garage sale days.

That looks like a right-handed Comanche pickguard with a coating of hammered paint on the reverse side.

Re: What isn't and what should be
The only real diff is the countersinking for the screws,
this one is definitely made for a lefty Comanche Vl .
I am considering it for my righty Vl...it's black with white plastic now,
it would be all black with this one .I could deal with the screws being a little high.

I sort of see evidence of countersunk holes now that you mention it.
So you have one of these? How many of the switch options have you liked and remembered? Do you find yourself searching or have you memorized them?

I usually need a few minutes to get the settings fresh in my head . I can remember a few choice sounds and just need to
twiddle about for a few to get there.
The neck(both)+bridge treble , and bridge bass +neck treble IIRC are couple I like.
You know now I'll have to go get it and play a bit...oh darn
I've got a stereo Z-coil project in the works, I'll have to laminate a cheat sheet to the back of that one .

Maybe a consensus here would help me decide if I should make an offer on the guard.
It already has a black crinkle neck plate.

Re: What isn't and what should be
You could hammer or wrinkle paint the pickguard on the guitar currently. You could buy a plain black from Pickguard Heaven. You could even paint the black replacement so the original stock guard was left available to restore the guitar to stock condition. I am not sure how durable the paints are on plastic. I think the hammer paint is designed to be very durable for metal housings. It seemed to hold up for years and years as it has been used on so many things for decades. It might get a chip or scratch and if so the black plastic would help disguise it.

Re: What isn't and what should be
Thanks for the link
Part of the appeal is it is a period correct part, I'd like to have a three ply (Black/white/Black) plastic for looks,
but I find my eyes are closed most the time when I play...so maybe it's more about feel and a slight bump in impedance
with the metal.
Seeing as the black crinkle finishes sorta scream old G&L , I find I can sometimes spend a little in that direction when
I would hesitate on buying something from new plastic.
