Pickguard Heaven

Post by bikegerm »

Just wanted to give the folks at Pickguard Heaven a shout out in helping me with a replacement pickguard for my ASAT Classic. They were great to deal with and their product is top notch ! I believe the make the original pickguards that are installed at the G&L factory. Here's my new color !!

Yes.. my avatar is the "before" and this pic is "after". The color is called Purple Candy Crush. I don't see much purple in it but I dig the "pearl" style swirls...

The "Thumper Doctrine".
In the movie Bambi, Thumper the rabbit says "If you can't say something nice... don't say nothing at all."

You know we both have the same taste in pickguards--I was just looking out for a new forum member unfamiliar with your manner. He needs to know what to expect from you so as not to take it personally.

It actually is a very nice forum, full of good folk and good sharing of good knowledge; and Louis is OK too, somewhere in there, he just doesn't like pearl guards (at all), nor tortoise.
Directly contrary to Louis' advice, I would probably lend him my guitars, but definitely not my wife.

Bikegerm, you posted one of the most beautiful pickguards I have see and on top of that a cool color which I would love to see in person. This board is pretty tame and extremely informative on G&Ls. You will find a lot of different opinions but the thing we all share is that we are willing to listen. I happen to think the "Thumper" rule is a good one to follow but that is just my opinion. I am glad that Suave Eddie mentioned it as it has been so long since I saw Bambi that I wouldn't have remembered that. Films were beginnig to be shown in color at that time and it was pretty slick. Time have changed.

Hang in there and show us some more cool stuff! -- Darwin

Looking good bikegerm. It really changes the entire look of the guitar.

And if you stick around long enough you'll probably learn to take Louis with a grain of salt. :D

I would like to add that you don't avoid spooking a horse by goosing it. This is an example of how people can actually manifest that which they seek to avoid. This would have gone smoothly had people only explained a little about Louis instead of intensifying focus on the potential for misunderstanding.

I have been reading a lot of old posts here and from what I have seen Louis is a knowledgeable nice guy masked in an opinionated personality. His bark brings valuable information. His bite is just the gnawing of a puppy. But of all things he definitely does not like the crinkle pearl style pickguards.

What forums do not have members who jump in with blunt opinions? It is actually to be expected, more of the norm than the exception. Proclaiming "Some forum!" would not apply. It would be more appropriate to proclaim "Typical forum!" and dismiss the behavior more like you would ignore and not get caught up in the ruckus as you walked through a playground. (It is only an analogy). But this forum seems to be an exceptionally nice place with exceptionally nice people.

Bikegerm,

Regarding the guitar, the original color combination is one of my favorites. I have an ASAT Classic in blonde with a white guard. I bought a black guard from Pickguard Heaven but have delayed swapping it out because I like playing the guitar with it in light colors. I still think a black pickguard on blonde looks elegant and "classy." You did a good job working with Pickguard Heaven getting the colors matched well with the new crinkle pearl pickguard. I like the results. It reminds me of crinkled chrome and ties in with the hardware. It definitely changes the guitar's personality and is unique. The original color scheme is relatively common. An advantage of a crinkle pearl guard is that they do not show any swirly scratch patterns from use. That color will never tarnish or yellow over time as well.

Every forum has one or two of "those guys".....after a while you just learn to skip by their posts.
