That's it! I still can't believe I got it bought and shipped for such a great price. It's not as rough as the photos made it look.yowhatsshakin wrote: I think I know you got the one on the right for a great price on eBay recently isn't it?

I know Steve I was watching the same auction. I'm so happy it went to somebody who can appreciate that guitar.Sprinter 92 wrote:That's it! For some background, and anybody knowing better can correct me, the original idea for the ASAT Special Deluxe No Top came from ProGuitarShop in Portland, OR. The only difference as far as I know is that on that original series the headstock was painted black instead of the natural on yours. When you look at it, the body as you have it is very similar to the ASAT 'Super', a Special Build model issued in 2004. Difference would be that your No Top has a hard-rock maple neck versus a hog neck on the Super.
Now you also likel understand why i was interested in that particular guitar

This is correct and that short run was done exclusively for PGS in 2011. Sprinter92 registered this one with a body date year of 2012, so I am wondering if anotheryowhatsshakin wrote:I know Steve I was watching the same auction. batch was done for PGS with slightly different specs or perhaps for some other G&L dealer. Steve, can you tell me how the Model Name is listed on the Custom Build Specs Sheet?
I will try to get more info from Dave on this and find out if ASAT Special Deluxe models with no Maple top can now be ordered by any dealer; possibly another "off-menu" item to add to our list.
BTW, Cherryburst on Mahogany look's quite different then on Alder or Swamp Ash. Both guitars look great.

The Asat Special Deluxe has the serial number plate on the back of the headstock. I thought G&L started using those in 2012? Did G&L start using them in 2011? The date stamp on the body is hard to read. The last digit is extremely faint. It may be 2011. I didn't get any of the paperwork with it, so I don't have the Custom Build Specs Sheet.

I have an early 2011 ASAT Special Deluxe. See my avatar and it has the serial number plate on it, so I'm sure they started with 2011 years.

I wasn't sure what year G&L did start using the serial number plates. I've done a poor job of keeping up with G&L's offerings for the past few years. The Bluesboy was the first brand new G&L I've seen in person in about three years.astutzmann wrote:I have an early 2011 ASAT Special Deluxe. The serial numbering change along with the metal plate was began in February 2011. See serial number significance for reference.Sprinter 92 wrote:I wasn't sure what year G&L did start using the serial number plates. Because your's does not have the black painted headstock I don't think it's one of the ones made for PGS.

The serial number on my guitar is: CLF062240 I did a serial number search in the registry for all guitars registered between serial number CLF062200 and number CLF062300. All of them that had dates listed were for July 2011. So my guitar must be a 2011 model. I have corrected the info in the registry for this guitar.

I have an update! The seller found the paperwork and I received it in the mail today. The model is listed as: Asat Special Deluxe The build sheet is dated 7/12/2011
