Someone beat me to it.

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

Someone beat me to it.

Post by Rideoften »

There was a Blueburst ASAT Z3 in the Jacksonville Fl craigslist that I was going to travel up from Orlando TODAY to perhaps buy it. Been looking at it all week. I called yesterday and it was sold. A pawn shop had it and said it was like new and still had the plastic on the pickguard. They were asking $599. I learned my lesson about buying guitars without seeing and playing them first so I patiently waited. Good things come to those who wait, but only things left by those who hustle.

I'm sure there will be others.

Been there before... I understand your disappointment.
I always tell myself: "it's better to miss a good deal than to have a bad one" isn't it ? :)

That's true but I've never played or heard one of those Z pup guitars and was really looking forward to seeing what it could do.
I'll stumble onto one eventually.

Bummer. I missed a Fullerton Red '98 Z-3 by about five minutes last year. It had been listed the night before at $599. I figured I'd get a jump on it by calling the store 15 minutes before they opened. Turned out somebody has had called 20 minutes early. I've also been beaten by a couple of minutes to a $450 SC-2 (first-style), that time by another G&LDPer.

I was on the other end with my '83 Nighthawk, which come to think of it was also $599. I called the store just before opening on the morning after the guitar had been listed. While I was on the phone closing the deal, two guys who had been waiting outside ran in to the counter to be first in line.

I'm churning over a deal that I have in the works right now. The Amp of My Dreams is dangling within reach, but I have to wait until tomorrow to do the deal. Meanwhile, I'm going to put one of my G&Ls up in the Marketplace to see if anybody wants it before I trade it off tomorrow afternoon...

I don't know wether to be happy I got one , or cry that I payed too much ??.... 600.00 was a smoking deal for mint , they seem to be 800.00 plus on ebay

I see them going for quite a bit more locally as long as they are in good shape...probably around $1000 on average. I'm talking Silverface here - the couple of Blackface ones I've seen have been around $2000.

Makes me want to gloat again about the '68 I found at a yard sale for $200!

mine is not the re-issue but is a silver face and was at the local G & L dealer , he bought and sold it back a few times , still excellent shape , sounds great and recent re-tube , I was shopping ebay for amps and saw this one when I was getting my Cavalier checked over and set up , at 899.00 it seemed fair for whats around here with no shipping and no worries from my dealer , some of the ebay people are asking close to 2000.00 or starting their auctions bid at 800.00 , so at 899.00 and being able to check it out before hand with no hassle's or surprises I took it

That wasn't a bad deal at all IMO. What year was it? The first couple of silverface years still had the AB-763 circuit from the earlier blackface ones. Pics???

its a 1966 or 1976 ? , one reciept says 1976 , the other says 1966 so I'll have to look , Super Reverb with foot switch , all original except for tubes , sounds great , I won't have it in my possesion until maybe next week

A '66 would be blackface, and a '76 would be silverface. Assuming it's in good condition, the silverface would be a good deal. That price for a blackface would be the deal of the year.

My last visit to a G&L dealer was in 1999, but I know how you feel. Here is the DC area we have Atomic Music - owned by a couple of guitar players, piled high with used gear, and absolutely trustworthy. Every time I buy from anybody else, I find myself wishing it could have been through them instead. The drawback is that the inventory is luck of the draw, but that's also part of the appeal. The G&L deals I've found there over the past three years have been a '98 ASAT Classic (my gateway G&L), an '86 Superhawk, a mid-80s Skyhawk and a near-mint '82 SC-2. Not bad for pure chance!
