patience is not my strongest suite. I will keep checking back. Seems that this info shouldn't be hard to come to someone in the know. Of course I'm not someone in the know...

Not knowing any better, I thought that with the numbers on the neck plate, the approx. year could be looked up fairly easy. At this time its not important enough for me to take the neck off. I do appreciate what info you were able to give me with the neck plate numbers. I'm not a troll, I am just trying to learn more about my guitar . thanks Elwood for responding

I like to think of info here as more like a dead drop than an active dialogue.

Plus if you want to learn even more you can always pour through the archives.

A serial number on the neck plate puts your Legacy no later than the beginning of 1998, when the format changed and they moved to the headstock. G&L serial numbers weren't sequential, so the best you can do with the number alone is to get within a year or two. If you look in the G&L Registry and search for similar serial numbers (say, plus/minus 100 or 500), you can get an idea of when that batch of neck plates was being used. You can also estimate the date by looking at the pickups. The first Legacies in the early 90s had Seymour Duncan pickups. The switch to G&L-built pickups came a couple of years after Legacy production started. I don't know the dates off the top of my head, but if you check the Knowledgebase you'll find a post listing all of the pickups used in G&L guitars and the dates they were used.
