Thursday 01/08/2013 Lunch Report " Beauty"

Post by LeoFThe Champion »

Hello,
Having had nightmares about being stuck in abandoned amusement parks at night I have decided today must be about beauty. I must admit I have always been attracted to things of beauty. Woman(not that they are things) guitars, cars and buildings. I love and admire beautiful things.
I was surfing the internet yesterday and I was watching one of my favourite American bands playing Simple twist of fate. Which reminded me I saw them perform in an old place
named the State Theatre in the central business district of Sydney. Beautiful venue and a perfect location to see an awesome band.
Sydney is the city where I was born and a beautiful city. Are there some beautiful old live music venues where you live.
Today's lunch was baked Salmon and green garden salad.
State Theatre , Sydney.

I have also included some photographs of beautiful buildings.

And my all time favourite building
Image

Don't ask me why but I always need to know when a building was built. If I came to your house it would definitely be a question I would ask.

My beautiful rescue dog. Inspired by G&LDP. Behind him is my bookshelf of Guitar history books. Speaking of , I can't wait for Gabe's definitive history of G&L.
Image

I have always been a Fender man, but who really is better Fender , we all know G&L is more Fender than Fender or Gibson. I have been into guitars since the mid 1980's when stuff was cheap.
My 1964 Body and January 66 neck, came out of the factory like it.
Image

My 1969 Les Paul , Refinished at Gibson sometime in the 1970's

And for todays G&L

Image
Called Winter because it came from Texas. Massive sound, maple body made in 1982. Good thing I do weights coz this thing is heavy.
Big baseball neck on it too.

I love the stickers on the case. Shows it has been some places.
Image

Would you like G&L to make a Thunderbird copy?

Image

Okay, now the important stuff. I really want to improve my playing and singing. I know the best way is to practice. Perfect practice makes perfect as they say. I know I need more structure because I just go in there and see how I feel . Any suggestions to help me get better are really welcome. And I promise I will put some of the suggestions into place. I'm sure lots of readers will be interested to hear how they can improve as a musician too.
Thanks
Anthony

Cool stuff today( it's night still here) Anthony.

I'll be back a li'l later.

I think G&L should allow us each one of these (and a year to pay it off  ).

I agree Elwood, G&L should hire you and I. We could be in the creative development department
Very cool bass , I have never seen that picture before. It's certainly very 80's.

I'm very fond of this week's LR, Big applause to you ! :happy0065:

I'm attracted to beauty in things too I must say, I could never buy a guitar that I find ugly.
I'm especially attracted to beauty in sound, the tone is somewhat what strikes me the most. I will never appreciate a good player with a tone I can't stand, sometimes it seems that, for me, tone is even most important than notes. I think that's why I love Miles Davis so much, and Bill Frisell for a guitar example.

As way to improve your playing and singing, you mean working on your playing AND singing simultaneously ? I'm afraid I can't help you with that.

Thank you so much, I have tried really hard to be entertaining and thought provoking. Your words make it all worthwhile. Thank you. I am sorry the Eiffel tower photograph is so small.

Hey El, I had some really bad hairdoos in the 80's too. I love his shirt.

That picture is great. For those that don't know, that is Steve Reed. He was the woodshop foreman. Steve was also a great guitar builder. He and I collaborated on several instruments both at CLF/G&L and in our respective shops. I lost touch with him a few years after I moved to Georgia.

Hearst castle. I went there with my mum in 1985 when we were in California on vacation. It really stuck with me.
As far as practice goes, are you talking technique? or knowledge. Decide what you need the most and make a timed practice schedule for yourself and stick to it.
Treat it like going to the gym. And like Darwin says, learn stuff you wouldn't normally play, expand that repertoire !

No clue what lunch will be today, something light.

I like the basses G&L makes right now, if I wanted a Thunderbird I would get a Gibson.

Here's a good take on G&L and Fender, this has probably been posted before ,http://gtroblq.blogspot.ca/2011/08/fender-or-g.html

It shouldn't be too hard for one or a few of us to print up a guerrilla batch of case stickers :shh:
like this :
Image

Sending them out to members should be cheap , as long as we don't use UPS international :eh:

Anyone remember these?

I've actually been thinking about doing another batch sometime. Any interest in the top one being re-issued?

Craig I would definitely be up for some of those stickers, and I like the idea of the plain neon green G&L too.

I love architecture. I love beautiful, ergonomic, well-designed things...and a pretty girl will always get my attention. Love the Strat and the Les Paul.

I think you can get better...you just have to put the time in. There are so many great resources and tools nowadays.

My one trick for learning songs is to get it worked out, then practice it in front of the TV until I can do it on automatic pilot. It does help with concentration when you're singing it in the bar...and there is some buxom lass gyrating on the dance floor in front of you.
