ASAT with a #5 neck - Any assistance would be appreciated

Post by derekb15 »

Folks - I hope you can be of some assistance. I've been searching for an ASAT with a #5 neck for about 15 years now. I watch eBay, Gbase, and occasionally this forum - but never see one come across my screen. I've even spoken with G&L about cranking out one last #5 neck with an ebony fingerboard just like in the late 80s, but it's just not possible.

I've seen the Warmoth wide necks and know I could create something similar myself, but I fell in love with the blonde ASAT back in the day and an imitation just won't do.

Is there anyone here with a lead as to where I might be able to find one? Does anyone here have an ASAT with a #5 neck who would be willing to consider an offer?

Thanks for your time and any assistance you might be able to provide.

That is a very rare neck and we only have three ASATs listed with that neck size in the G&L Registry. We have a policy that For Sale and Want Ads are
not allowed on G&LDP. We have a Marketplace for posting Ads.

If any of our members know of an ASAT with a #5 neck (see What are the USA neck size options, past and present? for details on this neck), please PM or EM derekb15 directly, do not post that information here.

Best of luck on your search. :searching:

Hi Derek,

Craig does not mention it, but Warmoth necks won't fit on a G&L.

Hi Derek,

I feel your pain. Pretty much every G&L sold from a dealer or on eBay is 1 5/8. (except for signature series, but those are really expensive). I would love to swap out the default neck to the bigger and beefer 1 3/4 but it is just not possible.

There is a market for what you ask for. I wish someone would pick that up, even if they would have a monopoly and can charge what ever they please.

The real problem for neck makers is the number of changes G&L went through with their necks. What a pain!
