ASCARI TOP WOOD?

Post by AP84 »

Hi everyone

Is the top wood on the Ascari (NOT the P90 version) maple veneer on solid maple? Or is it just maple veneer over the mahogany body?

It is a solid Maple top on a Mahogany body.

Wow... a solid flame maple top is surprising.

I was wrong about this as I noticed the description on the G&L webpage as being "including a flamed maple veneer top"
on the Ascari GTS page. So, I contacted Dave McLaren with your question and here is his reply:
It's flame maple veneer. Killer wood but thin. We tried soon it over some maple but we didn't think the difference was worth it.
They were a bit brighter, but the mahogany that the factory overseas gets is so light and resonant the guitars sing beautifully as is.
Using the thin flame maple veneer means the maple isn't contributing significantly, so as we do versions without tops (e.g. M-2000 GTB)
they'll sound virtually the same. Just what we want.

Sorry for the incorrect information.
