what the heck !! ..... SC2 with no neck or body dates?

Post by Fumble fingers »

what the heck is going on ??..... my SC2 has no markings body or neck , dates , stickers no nothing but a paper shim in the neck pocket ..... I guess it really don't matter , but on my used Comanche the seller said 2006 or 07 when the neck and body dates were 2000 , so if paper work ever got lost years down the road someone might not ever know what year it is

think someone "cleaned up the pocket and neck in their effort to set it up? Crazier things have happened.

thanks Jeff , could be I guess and it makes the most sense ..... I did put the shim right back where it was and hand wrote the completion date on the neck and body myself .....

my new/used Comanche was suposed to be a 2006 or 07 but the the dates are 2000 , thats why it bothered me the SC 2 not having dates at all , who knows 40 years from now where the SC 2 will end up and if the paper works will stay with it

Just a guess, maybe the guys will know. Does the serial number fall roughly in the 2000 range?

yes , I did a string change and took the neck off the Comanche and the new SC 2 today , when I went to up-date the registry Craig already put a foot-note on the Comanche as a 2000 or 2001 when I had it listed as a 2006 , I bought it as a 2006 or 07 but the 2nd owner didn't know and didn't have the paper work .... I'm not dissapointed at all with it being a 2000 because its a real beauty and I wanted some Z coils .....

For all instruments built after January 2011, all of the build details are maintained in the factory database.
Your copy of the Custom Build Specification Certificate is created from this database.

The tagging information has changed over time and may change in the future, as the factory modifies or refines their production processes.
It is not that unusual for the neck pocket and/or the neck heel tags to be removed as the instrument is final assembled, to
insure a proper fit.

I like the old way of having an indelible stamp on both. If somebody stole one of my G&Ls and tried to part it out on eBay, I would have documentation of the finish color and date stamps to fall back on when I went after them. With no markings except a removable metal tag on the headstock, parts from a new instrument would be completely untraceable.

Just my opinion...

thanks Craig , that explains that !!

Ken ..... I totally agree with you , I even thought about writing the serial number in the pocket while I had it off but wrote just the comlpetion date on neck and body
