Nice guitar , but...

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

Nice guitar , but...

Post by Elwood »

I was curious if this bothers anyone else ever.

I see a really nice semi hollow ASAT...says G&L on the bridge, and on the headstock.
But the logo that get's my attention the most is Seymour's on the pickups.
To me it doesn't make sense to build such a beautiful instrument and have another manufacturer's
advertising plastered across the front like a racecar sponsor.

If I bought this ASAT I would get out the black sharpie before showing it to anyone.
I see why Leo put up a fight to keep his guitars with all in house parts (as much as possible at least).

Of course I don't know how much of those they sell, but just talking aesthetics...to a purist like myself, it just seems wrong and makes them look cheap.

Just looking for a few sympathetic vibrations for my semi-pathetic rant

here's the guitar that triggered it...

You have my vote. For myself, I feel the same way but at the same time I can't make the judgement if its wrong or right. It would work better for me if the guitar was a custom build and G&L offered other pickup choices. For me I like G&L all in house.

+1. And I'm pretty sure the SD pups can be gotten without the branding on the bobbins. But I guess Seymour want his moment in the sun too when he finds his pups on such a fine guitar ;)

But not withstanding the SD logo, one cannot deny the beautiful chevron on that curly maple top! And with that finish it is truly 'flame'. Gorgeous :happy0065:

I agree, that makes the non chevron-y plastic parts stand even more though.
I'd expect some to pay me if I was helping advertise them on my prides and joys.
Once I'm playing, my eyes are closed , but not so when looking to purchase.
...and I haven't heard those pups so I might just shut up real quick if they deliver.

I do cherish every part of the old G&L's...as if the plastic back then had the builders blood in it
( maybe sweat ).Trying not to think of Vai's DNA finishes

have a good day

Lucky me, I've got an old one, without that logos:

And they are Seymours for sure:

Not made split-able in 1996, but I don't need that anyhow. :)

Hey Miles,

Where can I see a full body pic of that ASAT? The colour alone temps me into another purchase :P

And now it even point's to the right guitar.

It doesn't only look good, but I'd still say it's the best player I've got. ;)
