Ex INXS ASAT Special 3 bolt

Post by nicholask »

I have been playing a US Bluesboy the last few years, but have had a strong hankering for an ASAT Special. I mainly play Teles and Jazzmasters, and really got to thinking a Special would be to my tastes with the large MFD pickups having some JM qualities to them.

So for the longest time, approx 5 years, I had been searching the local secondhand market for an affordable USA Special. Well, as luck would have it, this baby came up, and it also happened to meet ALL the specs I was looking for - blue (Lake Placid Blue, I would say), rosewood board, alder body, etc. It is a 93/94 3 bolt, and the seller had registered it in the registry.

It is close to mint, and has a fairly chunky neck, which I was after, too.

The story goes that the seller bought it a couple of years back, in Sydney, at a garage sale. The women who sold it told him her Dad had given it to her, but she never learned how to play. Her Dad had been the manager of INXS.

I really love G&L guitars, and this is proving to be one of the finest guitars I have ever owned. The weight of this one is so perfect, that it balances dead straight resting on your thigh in a seated position, as if the thing were a spirit level. And it absolutely rips plugged in.

Gimme a bit of time to post the pic - my first time posting on this board.

Thanks for posting it. When you get a chance, please add or update the G&L Registry.

Thanks for clarifying the colour , Craig. I was actually racking my brains to figure out what is was. It's not in the current colour line up, is it?

Apparently it is in the registry already, but I will check.

Yes indeed. But was there really a period where G&L did not offer Butterscotch Blonde? :problem:

Nicolas, a wonderful, almost royal, looking guitar. Congrats!

Royal blue is a good description, Jos.

Like a lot of blue gats, that colour moves a lot according to the light hitting it.

Yes, Butterscotch Blonde was not an official production finish until the Feburary 1, 1998 Price List.
The Color Chart I posted was from the 1997 G&L Catalog located in the Gallery.
