Your best bet is through either pat(jag) or Darwin who are regulars on here bud.both the boys are wired in with reputable dealers & have direct conduits into the factory itself,so at any time you can enquire on its progress, make Early alterations if need be etc.
Hope this helps jt,cheers..

Are the new G&L's as good as when I built mine in 2004? As good as 1993? I saw a '93 S500 on ebay that I could get for $850, but i don't like the color. But it's optioned how I want it (Hard tail). Thoughts on spending $1500 for a new, exactly how I want vs. used?

Regarding the history aspect of your enquiry ill respectfully abstain from that one sorry bud,as there are far more qualified guys here to answer that one.there does seem to be some sectors here that are in a "before & after" camp as you've alluded though.
On a personal note it's hard to imagine the WR custom tele the guys have just built me being "better" that what it is in any era of G & L's history.the attention to detail is immaculate & the litany of other examples littered throughout the G & L porn section here bare further testimony that G & L are still pushing out pretty well the best planks on the market in regards to bang for your buck with some historical heritage pizazz thrown in for good measure.
If you've got a budget of $1500 & a bit of patience my advice would be to go new jt,you're basically assured a plank to YOUR specs then mate.thats just my 2 cents anyway bud, ultimately the decision is yours.cheers..

If you check my profile, you'll see I have eight '80s vintage G&Ls for every newer one. I prefer the feel of a guitar that's vibrated for a couple of decades. I can say with all honesty, though, that the very recent G&Ls I've played were at least as good as the old ones in terms of construction, and have drop-dead gorgeous finishes to boot.
