Legacy pickups

Post by ADYAPOOP »

Hello everybody

two questions:

If I replaced the legacy hb neck and middle pickups with the Bill Lawrence l-45's, would anything need to be changed inside like the wiring, obviously I would have a guitar tech do it, but I was curious if there would be any problems with pots/caps.

My next question is:

would it be possible to put the g&l MFD SC pickups in the neck and middle position in the legacy? would anything inside the guitar (pots/caps) need to be replaced?

thanks for reading and thanks for the help! :-)

Pots and caps rarely need to be replaced, the exception is active to passive, as active guitars tend to have 25k ohm pots, not 250 or 500.

Pots is really a preference thing, single coils, being brighter, usually have 250k ohm pots to tame that some. Darker humbuckers 500k ohm, some people like to upgrade the volume to 1 Meg ohm to get a but more drive for long chains or just brighter overall.

Wouldn't bother paying a tech for something as simple as a pickup swap, just a few joints and you are good to go.

Of course it's possible and the factory did a trio of them about two years ago, see 2010 S-500 HB Trio Special Build in the Gallery. Also, take a like at the Gallery Album: Instrument Manuals and Wiring Schematics.
You should see that the S-500 has an extra cap on the 1 Meg pot. So, show that to your tech and he/she should be able to add one if it is needed.

When you eventually get your ordered Legacy HB, I sure hope you give it some playing time to see what it's got, before doing any mods. Of course, that's just
my own opinion.
