Microphonic pickup?

Post by Sean Clavin »

Hey all, I've noticed that my ASAT Bluesboy has a tough time when I crank on the clean boost when I'm using the bridge pup. It squeals like I'm holding a Mic in front of a PA speaker. Would you suggest potting it, or is there a different solution to my problem?

Thanks!

it can be the wax, or the bridge vibrating. the asat bridge pups are notorious for this. i ended up switching to a fralin sp43, as potting didn't even solve it. no more squealing for me.

Unfortunately, this is one of the main reasons I don't have the bridge MFD in any of my Classics. Replacing it with something else is the easiest option.

Also, see this post in the G&L Knowledgebase, G&LTech Tips sub-forum: How do I fix MFD bridge pickup squealing problem?

Hope this helps.

Thanks Craig, I do love the tone of the pup, so I'll try these to "fix" this first!

Well worth getting it re-potted, my ASAT Classic SH did the same thing until I had it done. You can try double-sided sticky tape in the under-side of the bridge, and make sure the pickup mounting screws use the surgical tubing in stead of springs.

Good luck!
