Please help me find information on this Cavalier

Post by DaveHolthaus »

I picked this up at auction and really would like to know more about it. I.E. Approx. number made, color name, and approximate value. Really any info appreciated. Guitar is in very nice shape.

Thanks in advance!

Dave

First let's fix the image posts to show inline:

Next see this post from our G&L Knowledgebase for what production info we have: Production List of G&L Instrument (USA)

I think the body finish is "Natural Ash" which has aged nicely.

Regarding value, see this post about Zachary Fjestads' Blue Book of Electric Guitars 13th edition.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Craig and Elwood!

This is my first G&L. I am lucky to own it.

Appreciate the link to Guitar Blue Book. That did help with value quite a bit.

Seems like its a bit of a rare piece...

Thx Ff !

Yes , it really is a nice guitar and according the the register there were 700 Cav's made in the USA between 1983 & 86. Lucky to run across it @ auction.

Appears to be Birds eye maple neck and natural ash that has aged to a deep butterscotch color -but the grain remains vibrant. I am having it cleaned/restrung and gone over this week to get it ready for my attempt at playing with it. I'm old and shaky but this is sure fun!

My best to you Sir!

sometime in the near future I would like to get some "Leo era" G & L's ..... I will have to un-load some non-G & L guitars first to get more G & L's .... not to mention I actually have 2 new ones on order :) a Legacy in Honey burst and a SC2 ruby red but the wait was killing me so I bought a used 98 ASAT classic for phsyco therapy ..lol .... and it worked great , been feeling good ever since

:) good luck with your guitar acquisition goals. I sincerely hope your wife understands!!! I know mine wouldn't!!!

She's great about it but I can't play well enough to justify too much of a guitar.

I'm really an old drummer working my way upstage!

I have mine in the shop now getting a going over --new stings, finger board heights adj etc. scrub down and polished Might to too pretty to play! NOT!

take care!

Pictures like this always remind me the one seen on Ebay, where the third leg was visible also.

And yes, that Cavalier would be really nice to have.
