nothing from dimarzio or duncan. there are a few good german winders, greg hilden uses them, you maybe able to find links on his site, but overall it's the vintage vibe. maybe you can have them send a lower bill and i doubt the customs people would know what a vintage vibe pup is worth.kimanistar wrote:so what's is the most comparable pup you can think of to mfd?louis cyfer wrote:not very. i have played both, and the duncan is very different.

so the duncan vintage stack doesn't sound vintage?louis cyfer wrote:nothing from dimarzio or duncan. there are a few good german winders, greg hilden uses them, you maybe able to find links on his site, but overall it's the vintage vibe. maybe you can have them send a lower bill and i doubt the customs people would know what a vintage vibe pup is worth.kimanistar wrote:so what's is the most comparable pup you can think of to mfd?louis cyfer wrote:not very. i have played both, and the duncan is very different.

no. it is a hum cancelling pup. and mfd's don't sound vintage either, but in a different way. they are hotter, but brighter. regular alnico magnets get darker as they get hotter.kimanistar wrote:so the duncan vintage stack doesn't sound vintage?louis cyfer wrote:nothing from dimarzio or duncan. there are a few good german winders, greg hilden uses them, you maybe able to find links on his site, but overall it's the vintage vibe. maybe you can have them send a lower bill and i doubt the customs people would know what a vintage vibe pup is worth.kimanistar wrote:so what's is the most comparable pup you can think of to mfd?louis cyfer wrote:not very. i have played both, and the duncan is very different.

so the mfd is so cool because it's hum cancelling and bright and hot?louis cyfer wrote:no. it is a hum cancelling pup. and mfd's don't sound vintage either, but in a different way. they are hotter, but brighter. regular alnico magnets get darker as they get hotter.kimanistar wrote:so the duncan vintage stack doesn't sound vintage?louis cyfer wrote:nothing from dimarzio or duncan. there are a few good german winders, greg hilden uses them, you maybe able to find links on his site, but overall it's the vintage vibe. maybe you can have them send a lower bill and i doubt the customs people would know what a vintage vibe pup is worth.kimanistar wrote:so what's is the most comparable pup you can think of to mfd?louis cyfer wrote:not very. i have played both, and the duncan is very different.

mfd's are not hum cancelling. the vintage stack is. stacked single coils don't sound like real single coils, it is basically a humbucker.kimanistar wrote:so the mfd is so cool because it's hum cancelling and bright and hot?louis cyfer wrote:no. it is a hum cancelling pup. and mfd's don't sound vintage either, but in a different way. they are hotter, but brighter. regular alnico magnets get darker as they get hotter.kimanistar wrote:so the duncan vintage stack doesn't sound vintage?louis cyfer wrote:nothing from dimarzio or duncan. there are a few good german winders, greg hilden uses them, you maybe able to find links on his site, but overall it's the vintage vibe. maybe you can have them send a lower bill and i doubt the customs people would know what a vintage vibe pup is worth.kimanistar wrote:so what's is the most comparable pup you can think of to mfd?louis cyfer wrote:not very. i have played both, and the duncan is very different.

they are bright, articulate single coils that do have a bit lower noise because there are less windings and offer more output without sacrificing high end response.

The MFD pickups are unique. They are single coils, very high output, and a very wide range...all the highs and all the lows...and an almost high-fidelity feel.
I don't know of any manufacturer that makes any pickups that sound like the MFDs.
I think you can buy the ASAT Classic pickups from G&Ls online store. They should fit most Teles, but may require slight modification to the guitar for a proper fit.

hi-fi ? maybe... i personally feel a bump in the mid's, most high mids...
spanky feel ! and as Louis said, very articulate...
edit : but if you want a "vintage" feel in your MIM, as i said in another thread you should consider Van Zandt true vintage as well... you'll find it in EU quite easily...
