Hi!
Yesterday I had the Tribute Comanche open again and I removed that second capacitor from the hi-cut tone control. The one which is of type 102 and constantly bleeds height to earth. The same thing I found in the old SC-2 and I removed that cap there too, as If I want less high frequencies, I always may use the tone control anyway. The Tribute has obviously the same wiring as the USA models have, at least I found a very matching picture of Comanche wiring in the gallery.
I'd notice that cap as I've opened the guitar soon after I've got it, but I let it untouched. When I was recording with the Comanche and did the same recording with my Partscaster, which has a set of Legacy pickups inside, I noticed that the Comanche cannot compete with the Partscaster in clearness of the sound.
I'm recording with a Line6 Pod X3 and I'm always taking just the unprocessed signal coming via USB. The first part (0:00) is the Comanche with the cap still there and the second (0:14) without:

After that I use the Line6 Podfarm as VST-plugin and above sample sounds like this, with the Plexi45 amp simulation:

Now, that video was made without the capacitor:

This one is with the cap still inside, (more not perfect playing, I apologise)

And for comparison, with the older version of that track, the Partscaster with G&L pickups:

Re: Comanche: removed one cap
Hi Miles. Straight out of the POD X3, I prefer the more muted sound with the capacitor in place.
But I think the cap-less Comanche video has better tone than the other 2.
Nice playing too BTW

Re: Comanche: removed one cap
The unprocessed sound is just to show how much the difference is and it sounds awful anyway. For the processed sound I took the same amp simulation as in the video, but without effect simulations like compressor, chorus and reverb. And it seems the brighter sound does a better job in conjunction with the other instrumentsPhilby wrote:Hi Miles. I mostly play the mentioned SC-2 with the tone control rolled a little bit off. But mostly and not always, so I have the choice.
But I also remember some discussions on how to modify, I think it was an ASAT, for a less bright tone without rolling on the knobs. So there are people there who like this feature, but I don't. Maybe there are some other Comanche owners, which don't know there's that simple possibility for a more Strat-like tone.
