they are a little deeper, they'll fit , but your pickguard won't quite seat flat.
I did this with my MIM strat...it works, but it's tight....and it sounds much livelier !
I opted for a non-mfd at the neck for warmth, the MFD at the neck position was a bit too lively !

i don't understand the need for a warm pickup in the neck, as it is already warm just because of the location. it makes much more sense to make the bridge pup warmer to balance things, as the bridge pup is very bright because where it's at.Elwood wrote:they are a little deeper, they'll fit , but your pickguard won't quite seat flat.

That makes sense also, through trial and swapping I found that the sizzle of the MFD at the neck ( maybe it was the relative signal strength it was giving , it wouldn't go any lower due to the dimensions) wasn't the flavor I was looking for. The alnico has enough highs without having to tame them with a tone pot or a cap.louis cyfer wrote:

The MFD sizzle at the bridge and middle works great for me. I used an older MFD at the bridge that is a little more mellow in the highs to balance the newer MFD that I installed in the middle position.
The Bridge + Neck combo ( I changed the switching) sounds real nice.
I often play with my wah and fuzzface engaged , so I might be compensating on the fly for little tone
differences when switching positions.

i think you nailed it, the mfd was too hot in the neck and couldn't drop it low enough.Elwood wrote:That makes sense also, through trial and swapping I found that the sizzle of the MFD at the neck ( maybe it was the relative signal strength it was giving , it wouldn't go any lower due to the dimensions) wasn't the flavor I was looking for. i forgot the name, but there is a pup maker who gives you several different magnets to pay with. he has a p90 design in a strat pup size and you get your choice of 2 different magnets. with the ceramic magnet you basically have an mfd.kimanistar wrote:Can any of you tell me a cool alternative to the MFD's?...I love em but they are hard to come by.

well being that i live in germany yes mcdonalds would serve me good right now.i need something that i can get anywhere.if i were living in nyc where i'm from i would get a little fancy shmancy but living here the only way i get stuff is if i order it through the eu sites.if not i have to pay shipping vat and have to go through customs.and trust me i'll take a mcdonalds over a german customs office any day.louis cyfer wrote:vintage vibe has it for tele as well. dimarzio and duncan are the mcdonalds of pups. do you really want to fine dine at mcdonalds?kimanistar wrote:louis cyfer wrote:i forgot the name, but there is a pup maker who gives you several different magnets to pay with. he has a p90 design in a strat pup size and you get your choice of 2 different magnets. with the ceramic magnet you basically have an mfd.kimanistar wrote:Can any of you tell me a cool alternative to the MFD's?...I love em but they are hard to come by.

You have european pick-up makers with a good reputation if you want to try something else. I don't have first hand experience with them but for example Benedetti (first link) has a great reputation. They are all french but you should be able to write them in english.
