Good OD/dist. pedal for use with Comanche

Post by curtisbrady »

Can anybody recommend a good OD/Dist pedal to pair up with my Comanche bridge pickup so I don't have to switch to a humbucker-equipped guitar for stuff like Aerosmith or Guns-n-Roses? It seems like I should be able to cover that kind of sound, but I've had pretty limited success so far. Thanks!

What have you tried so far and what amp are you using?

IMO you're only ever going to get "close enough" to that rock sounds using a guitar with single coil pickups. The best I've tried for adding 'heft' to single coil pickups are Catalinbread's Dirty Little Secret or the Zvex Box of Rock.

Have you tired an EQ prior to the amp's input? Not perfect but can help a little.

Z coils are different from single coils and humbuckers. I use either a BBE Green Screamer or a Tube Screamer for Z coils with very good success. Just use an amp setting that is clean & punchy, and dirty it up from the pedal end.
