Tremolo bar

Hi,

I own a G&L Legacy an I have a question about the tremolobar.

The bar itself slides into the whole. A sort of Nylon bush is supposed to keep it in place. However, as I am playing I tend to use the bar in a subtile manner but the tends to works its way out. So I have push it back several times duing the same session.

The nylon bush may be too far in or not far enough. However, if I tighten it too much the bar won't "swing" freely.

What can it be?

Bad news, but the vibrato bar is simply not supposed to "swing". So you will have to tighten the screw.

I've adjusted all my bars that way, they just stay in place where I release it, so I quickly may grab it again. If I would loosen the set screw just a little bit, it will move downwards. So you maybe have to search right that point, but the construction isn't made for a loose swinging vibrato arm. Either the arm will fall out or the set screw and the nylon bushing or even everything.

In case you don't know: when the screw is tightened, you still just simply pull out the arm and push it in again, without loosen the screw, even if you feel a little bit of resistance.

i have to agree with miles. a free swinging trem arm is not very good for subtle play anyway, as it's not gonna follow the movement of your hand well.

I agree. I have a Fender strat with Kahlers-tremolo. De bar screws into place. The Kahler system with fine-tune mechanism works pretty well. The tremolobar, however, does have quite a litte play.

It's not that I NEED to have a free swinging tremolo-arm. It's just that I thought I did something wrong.

Once you have the screw tightened to where you want it (I assume there is a little ability to adjust tension without having the bar just hang there) - is it at all possible that the bushing will somehow come out of the trem "socket"? Is it possible that when the trem bar is removed, the bushing will occasionally come out of the trem "socket"?

It never happened to me, but I remove the bar only for transport and do never play without it. When I put one of those guitars, they will never fit into the case without removing the belt and the bar. As I put on again the belt, I stick in the bar without having to think.

If you play without the bar, I can imagine the bushing will get lost, but it's more likely you loose the loose set screw.
