a couple Legacy questions
Hi guy's , first post , hope its in the right section
Is there a link or web site that you can listen to sound from different pick-ups ??....
I'm looking at ordering a new legacy or HB Legacy, just about wore out the on-line guitar generator (hope I didn't break it ) ...lol ... I have read all about the pick-ups but I have no expeirenced to electric guitars sounds (I've owned/played one electric for 30 years ) , played more acoustics but now really interested in electrics so I don't no much ,I read softer , harder , twangy all gets confusing when your not listening to it
whats the difference in sounds between the Legacy and the Legacy HB ... is there a better way to explain the sound differnce short of listening to it ??
the other question is on Honey burst finish .... it looks good on the generator but on some internet pictures it looks real dark like tobaco .... is the color on Honey burst kinda hit or miss on darkness ???..... the generator honey burst looks like clear orange with burst (wich I like) and some net pictures look like the rampage jackson where its real dark and I don't like as well
sorry for the pick up question , thanks , eric

Hi Fumble,
Welcome to G&LDP! You can't go wrong with a Legacy (or any other G&L) for your first electric guitar.
I can't help much with the pickup question, as I've never played a Legacy HB. You can get an idea of how the HB pickups would sound by going to Seymour Duncan's website and listening to the sound samples for the SH-1 and TB-4, which are the ones used by G&L. Although it wouldn't be an exact match, you could probably get a reasonable idea of the single coil Legacy sounds by checking Seymour Duncan's sound samples for any vintage-style Alnico Strat pickups.
It would also be worthwhile to get your hands on either a Legacy or a Fender Strat to hear how the pickup combinations sound. The in-between (2 & 4) positions on the selector switch give an entirely different sound that you wouldn't have with the two HBs.
All of the G&L Honeyburst finishes I've seen (and the Honey finish I currently own) have been on the lighter side, without a lot of darkening around the outside compared to the center. Here's my Honey L-2000 for reference:
I hope this helps.

Here's one for starters: S-500 or Legacy?
Then peruse the G&L Audio and Video Clips!!! sub-forum.
Oh, and there is no reason to be sorry for your question.
Hope this helps.

Reading back over this, I had meant to suggest checking them out in a store. Not sure it ended up reading that way...KenC wrote:It would also be worthwhile to get your hands on either a Legacy or a Fender Strat to hear how the pickup combinations sound.

Re: a couple Legacy questions
thanks Ken and Craig !! .... the video link was nice , maybe I want a S 500 and just didn't know it ..lol ....
I found out about G & L through the GL thread on UG in electric guitars , been trying to private message Justrooster over there for about a month with no avail and finally registered over here to ask basically the same questions ....
Ken I actually have a fender strat highway 1 that I had in lay away at a local store on consignment there , just got it out of hock a week ago and played a couple hours on it , didn't like the frets being fretted out so its getting proffesionally set up right now so I will compare when I get it back ....
all this electric guitar (GAS) started about a couple month ago when I was taking my Ovation acoustic in for the pick up to get fixed figured I would pull my trusty old electric Epiphone out to play while the "O" was getting fixed (I'm more of a chord jammer at the camp fire , lol), well the epi jack and pick up switch quit working so I decided to have it fixed first , while there I played a chinese LP that felt real good and sounded a lot different the my epi and for 300.00 I bought it , I figured I hadn't put any money in music since before my now grown kids were little so what the heck I snagged it , been playing about six weeks with it then I decided I want to take some lesson and learn how to play some lead , the cheap LP kinda got my interest rejuvenated to play electric again when a fender strat showed up on consignment , bought the fender all though if I had to do over with what I've learned here in the last couple weeks I would have just waited for a new GL or snagged a nice used one from GC until my new one comes in .... there is a GL dealer in the next town over in centerville but they don't have any on hand to try on for size and sound , I would also like to feel the different neck shapes and sizes ... for literally 30 years I have only played my Epiphone and Ovation until my just recent purchase of the chinese LP and a Fender that I haven't really played yet , I have a lot to learn but I think I'm heading the right direction now , I'm sure I'll be asking some more questions ....
thanks again guy's , Eric

I spent about 25 years on an Ovation acoustic (still the only new guitar I've ever purchased), and an old Epiphone Genesis electric for about 12 of those years. I always figured I would remain happy with those two despite occasional bouts of GAS. My first G&L six-string was an ASAT Classic in 2010, when circumstance had me without a guitar for several months. That Classic really uncorked the GAS that had built up over the years. G&Ls tend to do that...
One thing to keep in mind with G&Ls is that there have always a lot of neck options. If you want to match the feel of an Ovation acoustic, definitely go for a narrower/skinnier profile. If you're buying new you'll be able to specify the neck profile, but if you buy used be sure to ask a lot of questions. The older G&Ls tended to be less chunky than a lot of newer ones.
I see that you're in Dayton. When I lived in Cincinnati a couple of years ago, the Sam Ash got used G&Ls in on a pretty regular basis. The sales staff there were always great too.
You can't go wrong with G&L. Ask away!Fumble fingers wrote:I have a lot to learn but I think I'm heading the right direction now , I'm sure I'll be asking some more questions

Take a look in the thread "What kind of G&L guitar is this?", which was posted this weekend. If you scroll down there's a good picture of a Honeyburst ASAT.Fumble fingers wrote: is the color on Honey burst kinda hit or miss on darkness ???

Re: a couple Legacy questions
I couldn't find the thread on "what kind of GL is this".... but mean while been wearing out the generator .... I live about 15 minutes north of Kings Island , the ovation is small but my epiphone is smaller , seems like I might be interested in something larger as sometimes my fingers like to hit two strings when one is clearly needed , I guess I need to measure the nut , my ID came from my guitar teacher telling me I have fumble fingers today , I thought it sounded like a good screen name , lol, partly due to the narrow neck , it seems like I have to play about 30 minutes to get clean with my epi and my lesson is right after work with no time to warm up ..... I'm probably going to way out the options and try to figure out the different sounds from the pick ups and maybe get the trigger pulled in a couple weeks .... when my fender comes back I will compare it too the legacy verses S 500 and purchase the one that sounds different first , I have a feeling I won't own my fender very long

As a player with GAS to the extreme in the past, the standard Legacy seems to have cured me. I play through a Fender 65 DRRI and a Blackstar for different sounds. You cannot go wrong with a Legacy unless you don't like strats. I'm down from 14 guitars to 2. My other is an A/E.

Re: a couple Legacy questions
yep , I keeping going towards a standard legacy , the S500 and legacy video has me liking the legacy the most , sounds like a good choice for a "first" G & L , probably going to pull the trigger this monday , I'm down to satin or gloss neck and leaning towards gloss ...... after I get my legacy delivered I will sell my current fender strat and get another G&L , maybe a ASAT next time around ..... I wish there was a store locally that had them in stock where I could compare first hand all the different models , neck shapes and pick ups

You gotta give Blackstar credit, their amps just rock, at least for me. Shoot, it made me sell my Marshall, never thought that would happen.cigblues9 wrote:As a player with GAS to the extreme in the past, the standard Legacy seems to have cured me. Re: a couple Legacy questions
I have spoken with Centerville music several times , yesterday was the most recent , they have none in stock and one of the sales people I talked too on a previous call didn't like the tributes so they don't stock either , I am wanting a American , but some tributes would of been nice to play/listen too as far as sound
